more harvesting from an invitro jar 12/30
    #7775547 - 12/18/07 09:04 PM (16 years, 1 month ago)

I have had a chitwan half pint BRF jar that has been growing invitro pins that grow into whole shrooms, in the jar. I keep it in the dark. I have pulled like 5 full sized mushies, not big cap[s, but if I let them they grow all the way to the space in the top of the jar and the caps open some. I have taken the cake out of the jar twice and picked the shrooms off and put it back in the jar just for it to grow more pins that grow big and long.  Has anyone expeienced anything like this?  Will more pins form like this if I leave it in the light?  The funny thing is that The jar is like only 60% colonized .

Its tight, I wish I could make all my jar do this.

teehee, oh kids

i heard of something like that, a few maybe 8 pint sized jars were left to dunk for too long [along the lines of a week or 2] the water dumped out and the funky looking jars jars tossed in a big rubbermaid bin full of growing supplies.
looks something like this. maybe

yep. just like that. And fooman I didn't try growing invitro like that. The pins and shrooms started growing in regular BRF jars, I birth the jar, pick the shrooms and put it back in the same half pint jar.

Do you think the pins would grow into shrooms more if it was in the light? Or would it change anything?

I think I am gonna keep it in the light just to see.

if %60 is colonized and fruiting either substrate is dry and dry part should be thrown or there is a contamination somewhere and mushroom is doing the best thing it can trying to sporulate to continue its life cyle when it faces a danger. (this is what rr often says when someone asks for a not fully colonized fruiting substrate in jars )

If you leave BRF cakes inside of your jars, they will eventually fruit invitro. You can see pictures of pinning in the original PF tek instructions here:

Another picture from the "Simple Minds" tek on Fungifun:

I'm not trying to shoot you down. I'm just letting you know it's nothing new.

wow a 1 galon jar! do you have pics? I would love to see that.

I put the jar I have in the light to see if it will make the shrooms grow longer stems.

Waiting for pins invitro for the pf tek is outdated.

However for certain species of mushrooms, letting them pin and fruit in the jar provides much better results, i think shitake is one of them.

Im surprised that the uncolinised substrate has not contaminated.

I came back from being home from the holidays and had a few more shrooms growing in the jar. i birthed it and picked the larger ones and left the 5 more pins that formed. It is getting pretty dry which is why I think it keeps producing these shrooms. I will consider dunking it but I don't want it to stop doing this. Its my magic little half pint jar that just keeps making mushies.

I have had 2 casings and 1 monotub go south on me and countless jars recently. I am having a real bad run, but this little jar just keeps producing. heh!
