*Pics* Black pin or black mold? On cake

OK, I did a search for 'black spots cake pic' and didn't really find many posts with pics, so I figured I'd share. Also, if any experts can chime in on this, maybe the next person will be able to make an easier judgment on what their particular issue is.
The bottom of the cake, looks like there may be more than just one contam here?
The black spots almost look like they are pinheads with the wrong color.

The last one is the same as pic 2.
I cut open the cake, and to my surprise found that the inside near the contams looked fine. Like the inside of a normal healthy cake. What gives there?
There are some brown spots too, not sure if they are actually pinheads. Also, in the biggest 'oh fuck me' in recent memory, I found some very healthy looking pins after cleaning the vermiculite off. This after a previous failed attempt because the cakes got too dry and/or not enough FAE.
Sorry about the lighting (greenish hue). I think the white balance got messed up because it was in front of fluorescent light.
So, anybody willing to try to confirm what type of mold it is?

i know it looks kinda weird but I think it is more the lighting and the way the camera made it look. It looked more normal in the terrarium in person

That cake looks very sick. I personally would throw it out.
If you want to be sure try the q-tip test. Wipe the black shit with a q-tip and if it comes off its a contaminant.

wow that cake is bad looking. man that is definantly destined for the garbage. as for wut kind of mold it looks like a couple different ones and I'm thinking it looks alot like there is a bacterial infection as well. I'm betting the cake smelled quite sour when u birthed it. definite sign of bacteria. id suggest to just toss it and try again. maybe try to think about what u could have done differently. when i first started my main problem was actually simple, although i didn't realize it for a long time, all i had to do was fix my cake mix i usually had too much water or too much flour. any way keep at it.

does anyone know specifically what contaminate the black spots are? I know they are not spores because the cake never really fruited. I see the red looks like lipstick mold... Cunt juice, I'm wondering what makes you say it looks like there is a bacterial infection? The sliminess?? Thanks

do you have 10X hand lens? see if there are any types of protrusions from the black areas that resemble fruiting fungus, or see if there are any hyphea surrounding the area. compare it to mildew closup pics from the internet. If none of those clues are present, probably bacterial. if so, and you really wanna know what it its, scrape that section off your cake with a alcohol n flame disinfected spoon, put in a container, give it the same treatment you're giving your cake. It will continue to culture the organism, which will get larger in size and colony. if you see a change in life cycle-hyphae to fruit, its fungal. if you get a good close-up look through your hand lens, maybe you can identify it. i suggest you ask for a dissecting microscope for xmas

It's really hard to ID specific molds from a photo. However, all come from less than sterile technique, which is the fix. Toss that stuff out if you haven't already. There's no saving it. RR

yah, the contam has def. ruined the cake, but i think he wants to figure out where the contam came from for future reference.

There are numerous sources of contamination. Therefore, it's hard to tell from where it came from. Best practice is to follow all sterility rules, methods and practices from ground up. Read, read and read all resources at your disposal.
