I would have asked the person if I could barrow $xxx.xx to pay this collection agency that keeps harassing me on my recorded phone, before I file a complaint against them.
They won't do shit, but at worst garnish your paycheck.
My last garnishment letter I got from my work, didn't even go through, they never collected. That was 3 years ago, at the same job.

Well I paid the bill. I called Verizon and they said I would have to pay the collection agency. The bummer is that I'll have to get a new cell phone number since my old one was turned off for so long. Also I was informed that some of the money I paid might be refunded to me again if I sign a new 1 or 2 year contract. I haven't had time to talk to verizon about that yet and I don't want to go to a verizon store. Hopefully they'll let me keep my old phone and get a new number. I don't want to buy a new one because I don't like any they have now, and my old one is still pretty good. If they won't let me I'll be getting an Iphone in the near future.

There isn't much they can do... But in response to the people saying you shouldn't pay, if I may play "dad" here (even though I'm only 18 myself), don't you think it's at least a little bit unethical to not pay for a service you recieved? Sure, the phone companies make a good profit off of you, but you can't deny that at least SOME of that money you owe was a fair payment for the service, and the work done on the part of verizon's employees. I don't like hearing people trying to justify things like that as "sticking it to the man" for what you see as an unfairly high price, as you entered the phone contract willingly and knowing the terms. Theft/not paying bills, when "justified" as "sticking it to the man," we all know its not really about sticking it to the man, it just about not wanting to pay.
But to the OP, if you do plan on paying once you get yourself back on your feet (which you should), then don't take this as an attack on you, it's just my attack on thieves in general
