Spore Printing

Hello Shroomers I'd like to pick your brains please.
I have one big ass Mazatapec mushroom. Third flush on BRF cakes. I want to make a spore print. My understanding is that i must wait until the cap has fully opened and the gills are fully spread out before decapitating it and placing the head in a sterile jar.
My questions are: how long is it best to leave the cap in the jar for? Do i have to leave jar open to allow moisture to escape? Can i get away with sterilizing the jar with a alcohol wipe rather than heating for several hours? And most importantly, are caps and stem still psychoactive after this process as I've read shrooms lose potency when they reach this stage? Any thoughts and advice welcome Cheers all

a day should be sufficient for printing probably with the alcohol, but if your a beginner i would find a tek and follow it to the t and yes, as long as your caps were nicely psychoactive before, they will be when you are done.

You don't need hours as you can heat the glass pretty hot in the oven. The biggest problem is that alcohol doesn't sterilize only sanitize.
I'd at least use a bleach wash followed by alcohol wipe but preferably an hour at max temperature in the oven (not the lids).
PS: Leave the lid loose (just sitting on top) on the jar so the humidity can escape.

Many Thanks for answering my questions. I'm following the PF tek on shroomery. Will heat jars first then leave cap in for a day.
Thanks again

I wouldn't put the cap in the jar personaly, prefering to keep the the jar as clean as possible. any mushroom grown in a normal home environment is going to be contaminated, and by placing the cap in direct contact with the jar you will be increasing the chance of contaminating the inside of the jar,and from there making a contaminated syringe. I prefer to cut a circular hole out of a piece of tyvek that you then possition over the glass, sit the cap over the hole to allow the spore to fall through into the glass for ~24 hours, cover with fresh tyvek for 12 hours to allow the spore dry, then cover with foil untill ready to use.

Most spore prints are considered not to be sterile in most cases, but the cleaner you are the better chance you have of making a good syringe out of it.
Another thing to note that when making a syringe, only use a small portion of the print, the more spores you use, the more likely that a contaminant spore could make it into the syringe.
There are lots of teks, read threw them and try em.
If you are going to use a jar to drop spores into then use the jar to make up spore water, sterilise the jar for 15 pinutes at 15 psi, use your glove box for making the print.
Make sure the cap can dry so the spores dont stick to the gils

The tek itself is sterile, its the mushroom that is not quite. You can still produce good prints, its just something to remember.
Some people take 2 prints from 1 cap, they let it drop spores for 4 hours then transfer to another peice of foil, if there were any contam spores present, then they should have dropped , the 2nd print should be considered the cleaner.
