Translucent Fungi found today
    #7771826 - 12/17/07 09:43 PM (16 years, 1 month ago)

Out on a walk today I came across a odd little mushie. Odd and yet extremely beautiful. When I first saw them I thought that they were teeth upon closer inspection I realized they were tiny mushies. The one foto shows the teeth like gills on the underside. They are almost transparent. I picked one off the piece of rotting fir wood it was growing on and i was amazed at how strong the flesh was. It wasnt easy to pull it off. the cap is only about the size of a shirt button. Not sure what kind of mushie it is... Never seen em before. Enjoy the pics!

Strangely enough, they're actually edible. They don't have much in the way of flavor, but are used mostly for texture.

Happy mushrooming!

I've heard some people candy coat them the same way you'd caramelize nuts.

DUDE, these are the coolest feelings mushrooms!!  I had to restrain myself from handling the only one at the fungus fair too much... I was afraid i would end up rubbing it to death.  :undecided:

I can see it now:

(Voice over intercom system): We need security over on aisle 2. There's some weirdo fondling the mushrooms and enjoying it way more than you're supposed to.

Happy mushrooming!

Hehehe, luckily i was sanctioned at the display table with the cool mushrooms like jelly teeth, puffballs, lions mane, beef steak, hypomyces, etc.  I got to make spore clouds of Pisolithus tinctorius for "demonstration".
So I had some cool ones to keep me entertained after Else left me there for 3 hours!!!

Else probably saw you fondling the Pseudohydnums and thought she didn't want to get too near.

We're going to have her here in Denver again next year in August.

Happy mushrooming!

I just moved to SW WA from the Seattle area. I got sick of the population density. I used to get out and do some picking but it was mostly actives. When I wanted to pick edibles it was quite the drive.

I bought a 7 acre farm that has 4 acres of beautiful pasture and 3 acres of old growth fir. The house is a completely restored turn of the century farm house. The place has some nice landscaping a dozen or so fruit trees. Well I kinda got off track there but my place is surrounded by thousands of acres of forrest service/paper company land. I walk across the street into a 20 year old Douglas Fir farm and I am in SHROOOOOM Heaven. I picked over 100lbs of Chanterelles and could have picked 10x that. I have been picking quite a few black Trumpets, also some Lobster mushrooms. I just got into my first bunch of Truffles yesterday, there will be some fotos coming soon. The edible Boletes will be in full bloom in a couple more months.......

Yea..... I have been foraging allot and there is much more to come.

What I really need is somebody to teach me a bit about what I actually have around my place. I suspect I am walking over allot of great edibles and dont even know it.
