Breaking addiction to Food.
    #7770773 - 12/17/07 06:12 PM (16 years, 1 month ago)

I'm feeling sort of like i'm addicted to fast food and other unhealthy snacks.

Now I heard it is very possible for people to be addicted to food like this, and for me it feels stronger than any drug addiction i've ever had.

Well, anyone have tips for breaking the addiction? I thought I was going to start dieting but i got hungry and wanted some nasty fast food.

it is possible. i fell into fast food for almost a year a few years back.

well i would suggest just trying to use will power and stopping cold turkey, but i have a very strong will power and even for me it was a slightly gradual process. the best advice i could give you, is to absolutely do NOT eat any fast food for 1-2 months, and then go get a large combo meal. like a double whopper with fries and shit. eat it ALL. i guarantee you, the reaction your body gives, will be all you need to stop lol.

that shit is worse than drugs man. seriously though, just try your best to stop. when you find yourself craving it, drink a large glass of water or eat something healthy that will fill you up so you dont think about it, like a salad.

Hey man, im with lefty here.

I was into all kinds of fast food for a while, because its cheaper than cooking for 1 or 2 in my opinion...and tastes pretty fucking good.

I ended up stopping when I started my new job, and was required to pack a lunch (was eating out everyday on last job). After a good while, I got a big juicy burger from one of the local giants, and almost didn't make it home.

I have heard of people trying to take it in steps though. Soda, and fries being the things you should try to cut first and the rest will follow. I feel much better about cutting soda out of my diet than I do fast food...but they usually go hand in hand

They've shown in studies that the beef used in a lot of fast food has higher than normal amounts of natural opiates in it. The growth hormones the companies use on the cattle are designed to do this and many other things. So to say your addicted to fast food, that can be a very literal and true statement. By all accounts your probably are addicted!

So the best thing to do would be to taper yourself off if you feel like stopping all together would be too hard to do. Then use healthy drinks or supplements to cleanse your body. Then get yourself on a well rounded regiment of good healthy food. The main part to feeling better is going to be getting the toxins out and good stuff in.

Thanks for all the advice guys, and hopefully starting tomorrow I can begin to stop eating fast food. Or at least eat healthier things.

Are you guys effin serious? Addiction to fast food?

By all accounts, I'm addicted to reality checks so here you go:

One look at your sloppy disgusting self in the mirror should be all it takes to get you out of that one. Vicious bouts of self loathing will do wonders for your motivation.

Now, if your metabolism can take whoppers and wings without collapsing, then go for the nachos bell grande while you're at it, you only live once.

Come on, I can organize a study that proves guys can get addicted to scratching their balls. What does that prove? That humans are driven by pleasure, big fuckin' discovery!

I think that post is a bit critical and off-topic for this forum.

I have been fasting for 6 days. You will crave junk food for awhile, but once you come off you won't miss it. I would recommend a cleansing regime. That will help to eliminate cravings plus its just really healthy.

Supplement the void where junk food used to be with an assortment of vegetables. Notice how you feel after you've digested. Use your will. Don't be too hard on yourself if you do give in, but don't give up either.

its really not that hard. today for breakfast i had a bowl of oatmeal and honey, a turkey sandwich and some butternut squash. for lunch and later day snacks i had the rest of my butternut squash, some raw cabbage, carrots and green beans. for dinner ill probably have a bowl of short grain brown rice and quinoa with a bowl of miso soup.

easy as sugarless sweet potato pie.

that's much more difficult than just driving 2 blocks and having a meal made for you in less than 2 minutes.

i also am a bit addicted to fast food. i think more so i am lazy and don't like to cook, because it's so much easier and more satisfying getting something made for you in the blink of an eye.

i think i am going to be weaning myself off here very very soon. think i might start it with a cold shock to my system with a fasting experience.

ahhh but once you feel the difference in your health, its a whole different story. i guess it helps that i love to cook. but it really isnt that hard.

oatmeal. 5 mins.
turkey sammich. 2 mins.
steamed butternut squash. 10 mins.
cut raw veggies. 1-2 mins.
rice. 20 mins.
soup. 5 mins.

if you do it all at the same time, the first half of the day takes 10 mins. dinner takes 20.

health is worth a few extra minutes. i guess if you dont mind being unhealthy then sure, fast food is great.
