How effective is this method?

I just saw this video and they very large harvest pictures at the end and I was wondering if this method is worth the money. I know you can prepare all this stuff yourself for cheaper, but I'd like for my first time to go successively so I can learn the whole process, and the people helping me pay for it would too. So would this kit give me a high percentage of a good yield? Also, what kind of fruiting chamber would you suggest?

Didn't watch it all, but casing is definately a good method. Ask anyone here, haha.

Buying a "kit" doesn't automatically ensure any success and how are you "learning the whole process" any better by buying a kit as opposed to doing it yourself? There are so many easy, cheap methods out there that it just doesn't make sense NOT to do it yourself. I'm probably waisiting my breath though, because it sounds you you and your friends have your mind already made up. Good luck and don't forget to kick yourselves in the ass when you see how much money you could have saved later.

I know but the first time doing it I'd rather not have to worry that much about contamination if I know everything is pre-sterilized. I might end up doing it myself I just was wondering if the casing method in this fashion is a good beginner method. And I also was wondering what kinda of fruiting chamber i should make to try and do larger yields.

I would think cakes would be an easier beginner method...It cost me about 30-40 dollars to build a Glovebox, TiT Incubator, and a Fairly simple FC. I started 2 weeks ago and already have my first 6 cakes in the FC. It was cheaper took a little bit of time but will be well worth it.

If you get a pressure cooker, sterilization is a breeze. A good and easy method that will work with straw or horse poo is a Double Tub. Basically, its a couple big Rubbermaid storage containers with holes drilled in the sides for air exchange. Virtually no maintenance and produces wonderfully. You can also do this with one container (monotub).

I know it's not the best way, but the first few jars I made I just used a pot with a lid and locked it. Boiled them for an hour it worked although I know it's not the best way. After that I found a deal I could not pass up, someone returned a Pressure Cooker to a Mom and Pop kinda store and they sold it to me for 30 dollars a normally 100 dollar pressure cooker

Thank you this is what I was looking for So ok, one more question, and this one a bit noobish, if I use rye grain substrate jars I break it up after about 75% colonization, correct so far? And after that how do i add the rye to the straw?

If you have jars and a Walmart nearby, you've got a "kit" already

No, break them up at 100% colonization. You add the rye to the straw just the way the video showed you. Break it up and mix it well with the pasteurized straw.

Alright well the video was wrong. lol. I was just making total sure because the video was kinda hazy on it. Alright well i'm pretty confident that I don't need the kit and I'm gonna start next week hopefully.

I think what he's asking is when to shake the jars? Shake them after you see a decent amount of colonization.. maybe 25%, then wait until they are 101% colonized and case, or spawn to bulk, or whatever.
Don't buy a kit. Do it yourself, and fail, and learn something from the process. You'll be better off in the end.

what you can do before complete colonization is shake the jar good and well to spread all of the mycelium around and afterwards it should shoot off considerably.

Whoops! You're right. I thought he meant breaking them up as in breaking them up for spawning. I usually break my jars up at around 40-50% colonization to help spread the myc around, but sometimes I don't even bother doing it at all.

I would not buy a kit from the people that out that video. They are not a shroomery sponsor. Therefor may not be trusted.

Actually at the end of the video it shows their websites; Spore101 Mushbox and Mycodome
I know Spores101 and Mushbox are sponsors here, so that link is all good. (As far as being a vendor)
