Save up another $100 and buy a Champion 2000+ Juicer.

Oh I want one so bad. My centrifugal juicer struggles with the leafy greens.

Four hundred gumballs. Or Guitar Hero 3. One of the two.

The story goes, or the way that I was told
There was a king that always felt too high and then he fell too low
And so he called all the wise men to the hall
And begged them for a gift to end the rises and the falls
But here’s the thing, they came back with a ring
It was simple and was plainly unbefitting of a king
Engraved in black, it had no front or back
But there were words around the band that said
Just know: This Too Shall Pass

personaly, i'd go for a nice drop leg holster and a couple of colt .45 mags, maybe some new fishing tackle, carving gouges and rasps, staves for a new recurve bow, a new 18qt PC, etc.

there's always a ferret, you can never have too many weasles. maybe a 16 slice toaster or gift certificates to a store you know you could find something you like in.

  • One share of Transocean (RIG) @ $132
  • One share of Freeport Mc-Moran (FCX) @ $94
  • Four shares of Schering Plough (SGP) @ $26.50

I bought a few of the last ones (SGP) for myself this morning. :yesnod:

I use TDAmeritrade, which you probably have to deposit money with if you want to user their stock analysis and tracking tools.  Every couple of months they run special incentives, like "trade free for a month and get a free $100 deposit when opening an account for the first time".  Free services I'd suggest include Google Finance, Yahoo Finance, and maybe even StockPickr but the first two are the titans.

TXN isn't the best stock to be in, but it is nice to be in the market as it will help keep you interested.  If you want a good tech stock, I'd suggest looking into Google, Apple, or EMC.  Remember, you want to diversify yourself, so don't go buying three tech stocks.  Ideally you should shoot for 5 holdings in 5 different sectors.  This will help minimize your downside risk greatly!  And minimizing risk is probably the most important thing you can do... the rest takes care of itself.

Well I'll give it a go, but recognize that I am just a third year novice at this stuff.  As they like to say on the tele, consult a professional, don't sue me if you lose money, etc...

Now it's late, and I'm a little toasty, so I'm just going to have to wing it.  I'll also include some general company descriptions, as it's always important to know exactly what it is your company does, so that you'll know how to react when news breaks.
  • 1. General Electric (GE)

I approve of this move quite much!  This company is HUGE, and sports a solid 3% annual dividend, which essentially pays you to wait while the stock does it's thing.  With interests rates likely to fall through the 2nd quarter of 2008, a 3% yield offers good downside protection.
General Electric Company (GE) is a diversified industrial corporation. It is engaged in developing, manufacturing and marketing a variety of products for the generation, transmission, distribution, control and utilization of electricity. During the year ended December 31, 2006, GE completed the sales of its Advanced Materials business by Industrial and GE Life, its United Kingdom-based life insurance business. During 2006, GE acquired IDX Systems Corporation, ZENON Environmental Inc. and Biacore International AB. On March 15, 2007, GeoEye Inc. acquired M.J. Harden Associates, Inc., from GE. In May 2007, Smiths Group PLC sold its aerospace businesses to GE. In May 2007, STV Partners Corporation, the Japanese unit of GE, acquired a 97.15% interest in SANYO ELECTRIC CREDIT CO., LTD.In October 2007, GE Healthcare, a unit of GE, acquired Dynamic Imaging, LLC. In October 2007, GE completed the acquisition of Sondex plc.

  • 2. Trane Inc. (TT)

Forget about this one right now, the "tranes" already left the station

This company was acquired by Ingersoll-Rand earlier this week.  Once a company is taken over, the premium price is baked into the stock (as evidenced by Trane's huge move monday morning)... and to sit around and wait for a couple of points, or worse yet for the deal to fail and the stock to fall back to its old price levels, is a waste of time IMO.

  • 3. Symmetry Medical, Inc. (SMA)

I'd probably steer clear of this one.  Symmetry operates in the medical sector, which is a good area to invest in during times of economic uncertainty and especially recession... but it just doesn't seem very exciting.  It seems fully valued, and especially considering that it missed last quarters earnings estimate (posting 13 cents per share versus the expected $0.18), you should probably steer clear of this one.  For a medical or healthcare stock (which is a good thing to own amidst the current turmoil and big swings of the market), you might consider looking into MHS, HOLX, ESRX, SGP (I just bought some SGP today in fact, but all these companies are solid).

  • 4. Gigamedia Ltmd. (GIGM)

Got a Chinese company here.  These guys run MMORPG's, which is a great business to be in.  They beat last quarter's earnings estimate and it seems they are capable of continuing to do so.  At the same time, realize that the Chinese market has been absolutely on fire and this stock has returned 100% this year and over 200% the year prior, so don't be afraid of a bit of a pullback at anytime.
GigaMedia Limited (GigaMedia) is a holding company that develops and licenses entertainment software and provides application services, owns and operates an online games portal and provides broadband Internet access services through its subsidiaries. GigaMedia's entertainment software business is operated through its subsidiary, Cambridge Entertainment Software Limited. Its Taiwan online casual games business is operated through Hoshin GigaMedia Center, Inc. (Hoshin GigaMedia). Its Hong Kong and People's Republic of China online casual games business is operated through FunTown World Limited (FunTown). Its Taiwan broadband Internet service provider businesses are operated through its subsidiary, Hoshin GigaMedia, which focuses on consumer users, and Koos Broadband Telecom Co., Ltd., which focuses on corporate users. In May 2006, the Company sold its ADSL business to Webs-TV International Corporation

  • 5. Adobe Systems Inc. (ADBE)

Not bad, but I'll still point you towards Apple, EMC, and especially Google.
Adobe Systems Incorporated is a diversified software company that offers a line of creative, business and mobile, software and services used by creative professionals, designers, knowledge workers, high-end consumers, original equipment manufacturers (OEM), developers and enterprises for creating, managing, delivering and engaging with content and experiences across multiple operating systems, devices and media. The Company distributes its products through a network of distributors and dealers, value-added resellers, systems integrators, independent software vendors and OEMs, direct to end users, and through its own Website at www.adobe.com. Do you have to pay more if you buy less than 100 shares? I always thought 100 was kind of the minimum amount

All the typical online brokers... Amertrade, Scottrade, E-Trade - they charge a flat fee (~$7 - $10) per trade, and you can order as little or as much as you like.  Certainly no minimums, buy just one share of a $1.50 stock if you want to (though at $10 comission fee, it may not prove very profitable)!  There are some other online brokers geared towards day-traders, who make heaps of transactions, and they might charge by the share count but for guys like you and me who aren't playing with millions of dollars and aren't constantly trading, the major brokerages are the better bet IMO.
