for all you people that lift weights...

after about 45 minutes into your workout/lifting session and you keep lifting, do you guys ever feel the actual tearing of your muscle tissue as you lift?
this has happened to me multiple times. I just finished my workout and it happened again so i felt compelled to make a post about it. after i've worked out my muscles nice and good and they start to tire, but i still keep going, i notice as im doing skull crushers or curls for ex., i can actually FEEL my muslce tisue ripping and tearing. almost like a bunch of elastic stings breaking....it feels really wierd!!!
i like it when that happens tho becuase its just reassurance that I'm making gains, I'm sure some of you can relate.
so when you intensly lift wieghts, do you feel your muscle tissues tearing and breaking after you've already lifted for a while, and continue to lift? just curious

Your workouts should only be 45 minutes long, unless you run before you lift. You need to understand that when you lift weights the tears are very small whereas a muscle strain is a large tear to the muscle or tendons attached to the muscle. Completely different things.

If you tore something, you would know it.
The burn is you pulling the muscle fibers out of their normal positions causing swelling. Then the body repairs them etc.
you should know this

wat the hell???
this is wierd that none of you replyed yes.
this has happened to me multiple times and i just end up being really sore in the area i felt the tearing the next day.
and future yes i do know that.
but its not like huge tears or rips, its just i feel these little string like things in my arm breaking. I KNOW im not tearing any tendons or anything so im not even worried about that.
but the tears, they dont hurt at all. My muscles burn like a motherfucker when i feel the tears but there is no excruciating pain. i do warm up before too.
I seriously find it incredibly ironic that none of you have experienced this. Do you guys work out hard enough or what?.....hmm

yea i know exactly what you mean.
but man, 45 mins of lifting really isnt alot. 2 hours of lifting is alot. 45 mins is probably the pinacle of the amount of time you should be working out to consistently make gains and see improvement. and man, you should be careful what you attach 'i am' to. sometimes what you identify yourself as, has a way of coming back and claiming you, in other words, its not smart to say "i am a pussy". that also says alot about your character and how you feel about yourself, man.
and yea, girls do love nice abs .... i try to do alot of crunches too

45 minutes is almost too much. In 45 minutes you will cover your split if you're doing it right, if you're not tired after 45 minutes you aren't lifting hard enough. I would say an intense, ball busting weight lifting session (what we all should be doing when we lift) should be ideally 35 minutes long, not including warm-up sets or cardio time.

Well thats how you get stronger isn't it? When you lift it tears up the muscle and rebuilds it stronger. If its painful then maybe theres something that is very wrong.

no tearin here either...burns like a bitch tho every fuckin time "never gets any easier" as an old man told me at the gym when he saw me strugglin for my last rep once
leg press is the worst for pain for me tho(and gets my heart pumpin more then any arm weights) could also be cause I'm doing around 17 reps of 320-340(first set)
my legs are much stronger then my arms(tho I'm building em up pretty good right now) because I rely on them to get around
I went from around 250 down to 175-180 now in under a year(mostly from the walking and just cutting back on how much I eat and changing my diet somewhat)
I don't deprive myself of anything tho I Just don't go overboard(for the most part)
I TRY to get into the gym everyday(alternate between cardio days and strength training days)

walrus. loosing that much weight is quite an accomplishment there man nice job
yea i have the same situation as you tho. my legs are incredibly stronger than my arms, but then again i've uused my leg muscles substantially more than my arm muscles because the only real sports i've ever been into were basketball, track, and skateboarding. and all those predominately use the legs. i've been skating and hoopin alteranately basically my whole life so it figures

thx man
it really wasn't as hard as I would have thought
soon as I started walking everywhere and cutting back the weight just flew off
I still have a lil bit of a belly tho(tho apparently its not visible to most but I see it in the mirror of course) which is probably gonna be much harder to get rid of and theres the stretchmarks which are healing but so incredibly slowly(spectro gel is amazing...do they that shit in the US yet?)
and my skin is loose from losing the weight so fast but my trainer thinks that I'm young enough that it will retract...and to just focus on building up the muscle underneath in the meantime

A lot of people don't realize that the type of workout you're doing is going to determine the length of said workout.
Sometimes I do the Randy Couture program which is basically a 15-20 minute workout, non-stop lifts transitioning from one to another encompassing every major muscle group.
Other times you might want to do muscle isolation workouts, where you'd do several different motions with each muscle group, taking time to rest and effectively rep until exhaustion with each set. These workouts can take upwards of 2 hours if you do your entire body.
Totally different workouts, with totally different gains in mind. As for the muscle fiber tearing or whatever is it you think you're feeling, it's probably just the swelling of your muscles that you're interpreting as tearing, I doubt those small muscle tears are actually something people can pick up on unless it was a large tear all at once.

I have to trade off my MMA training with my lifting. My body isn't good enough at recovering yet to be able to do both at the same time. Either my muscles are too sore to fight or I'm too tired to get some really good lifting done.
So yeah sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.
