if you search there is much info on salvia care , i think you need to gt some sort of humidity dome on it for now with a small fluro and you will be set, also make sure you have good draining soil so you don't get root rot
search and read is the best advise though

Hey, Ive got a general question about salvia care. I topped off two of my plants a little while back to take cuttings, and the tops of the mother plants, where I cut them have turned black starting at the tip and going about an inch down. Is this stem rot? Can it start at the top of the plant? My plants are in a pretty humid environment, so that is what I was thinking. I was thinking about sacrificing a good chuck of the tops of these plants to keep this from spreading. Been cutting back on humidity lately, also. Any suggestions?

If it goes past a node with branches then I would be worried, but I'm guessing that it's fine. The reason it does that is because it becomes useless to the plant unless there are nodes there where it can put out new branches. If it does go past the node, prepare to cut those branches off and root them. I recommend you checking out that forum I mentioned above, the guys there can teach you alot about salvia, it's like the shroomery, but for salvia.

One more thing, you said you have your plant in a humid enviroment, have you considered adjusting them to "your" enviroment? What I mean by that, adjusting them to natural enviroment around them you don't have to worry about the humidity(one less thing to worry about)well, actually several as humidity can attract fungus(not the good kind that is talked about here).

O wow thanks for the info. Almost did something drastic.
About the humidity, this is basically what ive been working on. Ive got this crappy humidifier in a tent that I would turn on while I was at school. But this thing is it has no control over how humid it makes the environment, it becomes basically soaked in there after like 20 minutes. Since id sometimes be gone all day at school, Id just leave it on as opposed to letting it dry up completely.
Basically its hard to lower the humidity slowly using this thing. I could leave it on all the time, and gradually open up a bigger and bigger hole in the tent, but I have a lot of electronics in my room which I dont want to ruin. Ive been really struggling with this since I got the plants.
But now that Im off for christmas, so Ill be around to spray them by hand, which Ill have to do quite often, considering the level of humidity they were at. Then I can more closely control the level of humidity. Hopefully Ill have them at least halfway there, by the time I have to go back to school in a month.
Thanks for the info. Can you pm the name of the salvia site?
