Hello to everyone on these boards. I recently just found out of this website and found it to be very helpful. Alittle bit about myself. I'm pretty laid back. Always in a good mood, peaceful guy.
Well I've been really wanting to experience shrooms for quite a bit now, I have been researching them for many weeks now. I figure this is my best bet to have a trip. And I would consider myself somewhat experieced with other substances. idk if this matters but i think it would make me better prepared . Although I've never real done a true hallucinogen besides salvia (and I hated it each time i did it) anyway sorry bout the lame introuduction now back on track. Well I am looking to grow some mushrooms myself. I believe Ihave a fairly good approach. vermiculite and brown rice canning jar method. i have a pressure cooker. I will incubate them in a crate like tote with a lid or something to keep in dark. but i was thinking maybe i would put water in one tote and put an fully submersible water heater inside, and put another tote inside the one with water. then just cover it up with something. after that i will let them fruit inside the same tote except i will put vermiculite in it with a mixture of water. anyone think of any suggestions. I'm doing this hopefully small scale, i failed to mention this needs to be somewhat stealthy since i live with a parent although my privacy is respected. thanks for anyones help.

O.o...That is possibly the weirdest introduction to a setup I've read...good job Ben. Sounds like you know what you're doing. Search for TiT incubators etc for one tub in water in another. And a little elucidation about "after that i will let them fruit inside the same tote except i will put vermiculite in it with a mixture of water." would be good cause I have NO clue what the hell you just said.

Sorry for the confusion. After my jar's are finished incubating and all mycelium has formed, I will use the same TiT method except the tub where the jars incubated in will then have vermiculite and small amount of water to retain humidity. this is where my shrooms will fruit.
I hope you know what I mean now.

Oh, on board now. Look into perlite. Much less of a mess to gather and clean up. If you only have verm I guess use it but you don't want standing water in your FC most times. Good breeding ground for contaminants. I've seen several incubators on here that use perlite, a small amount of water, and bubble wands under the perlite in the water for humidity and FAE, but usually bleach or H2O2 is added to the water to keep it clean. Most people just use the perlite, no standing water. So you say your are fruiting these jars...are you birthing them and letting them stand on their own or grow straight from jars? I can't see what you're envisioning or seeing man, you're going to have to use a little more detail and prepositional phrases in your posts

Dont use verm for humidification.
3-5 inches of damp perlite will give the best results.

No, No, No.
H202 is only effective against the fight of cobweb. It does not kill, or hurt other contaminants that much, and infact hurts mushroom mycelium more.
Exposed to light and air, it will break down into h20 and 02.

Welcome to the Shroomery!~

the TIT incubator is the best...IMO
that is what I use during the winter months here in the fucking cold PNW.
from one of my other posts...

I use 2 different size Rubbermaid's. The smaller one goes inside the bigger one...so you won't crush the submersible aquarium heater.

Put the submersible aquarium heater in the larger bottom Rubbermaid or container.

Then put the smaller Rubbermaid or container into the larger one.

Play with the temp setting on the submersible aquarium heater, in the bottom container...until you dial the heat in to 81 degrees F. inside the top container. Then put your jars inside the top container...and shut the lid on the top. Set it and forget it...lol

Fully colonized Quart jars of Rye.

Good luck!~
Do not use Vermiculite in your fruiting chamber for humidity... use Perlite.
If you need any help... please feel free to send me a private message... and I will be more than glad to help answer your questions!~

I will be making my first attempt at growing very shortly myself. I wanted to incubate using the TIT method as well. The thing is though, I will be going to Mexico for a bit more than a week in the beginning of January. I dont want to come back and have the house burnt down. lol. Any advice? Is it safe/ will the water level stay up? Maybe just keep them in a dark closet and then keep them at a warmer temp later when I come back?

Also, I find it helpful to stick your dingy in the fruiting chamber - just to show 'em who's boss!

I'll watch your house for you. Just load the fridge and I'll be fine.
Don't run the risk of burning down your house! The water WILL evaporate and more than likely it will melt the plastic and start a fire. So upgrade your insurance and enjoy the vacation - or stick the incubator above the fridge where it has some heat.
