I'm Throwing it All Away
    #7767598 - 12/16/07 09:53 PM (16 years, 1 month ago)

I can't get any of my school work done. I stay on this damn website (and others) all the time and I'm throwing away my opportunity for a good education. I don't know why I do it either.

Sometimes I really want to do something about it and get really pumped up about it but it never lasts. I end up just sitting at my computer, mindlessly reading posts. At lot of times I'm to lazy to read whole posts, and I'm bored of reading, but I just keep doing it.

I'm fairly intelligent, and could definately get good grades if I tried. Its possible that I'm going to fail some courses for the semester and that makes me nervous, but I still can't get the energy up to really knock out the last couple of finals.

I also have rapidly shifting moods and philosophies of life. I switch back and forth from not caring about school to seeing it as the way to get what I want from life, and from thinking I'm pathetic and will never get anything done to feeling like everything will work out and I dont even have to worry about school.

This is useless and is terribly written , but I just wanted to type about this. Hope you guys don't mind.

Edit: and sorry for the cheesy title.

You need to practice self-control.  Maybe buy a timer and allot yourself a certain amount of time to use the internet.  You might be depressed without realizing it.  I've acted in this exact same manner when I was depressed.  The lack of energy and motivation sounds like depression to me.  The shifting thoughts seems like you are discovering more abour yourself and your desires, and about life as a whole.  Been there and done that as well.  All of these things that occurred to me happened during my bachelor's stay in college.  If that's your time frame, I'd say things are normal.  Pursue self-growth.  You see the complete ridiculousness of the system, yet realize you have to play the game.  You don't have to bounce between either views, accept both and rock on.  Exercise, eat healthily, think healthily, etc.  Don't procrastinate.

Good luck.  I hope you begin to feel better

I feel much the same, especially the switching between not giving a shit about school and feeling that it's the key to my life's dreams. I've definately noticed depression and I really just don't know how to stay happy when I realize that everything is such horse shit.

Thanks guys. You both sound like you've gone ( or are going) through the same stuff. I'm gonna use the timer idea.

I look at all of the people all over the world that would literally give up their right arm to get an education. You just have to remember that an education is one of the most valuable things in the world. Not because it will bring money but because it will allow you to do what you want. If you want to join the peace corp, you need to go to college.

I just got done reading applications for beat the odds, and you will not believe some of the stories I read. They were all truly inspirational, and I feel terrible that I have to pick six to receive the help.

I look at like I am not just taking my education seriously for myself, and for my family but for all the people who do not have this opportunity, in the hopes that I will be able to give someone from the next generation this opportunity, and I know that education is the key to doing that.

I looked at the peace corp business development area. Kinda sucks that you have to have work experience.

School is bullshit. the reason to go to it is to get a diploma, not to learn. from junior high and on I realized what a fucking joke the school system is

Great attitude.

Do you honestly not believe that school is necessary to do many jobs?

I mean, every society needs dish washers and car mechanics, but don't you aspire to anything more?

I hate our education system with a passion, but to say that school is bullshit is pretty stupid. School/education is what you make of it. It can have MANY positive effects. You need to make it work for you, I had to take a lot of bullshit classes but I used them as a way to increase my social skills, and work on other specific problems I had.

Well, I hated high school and took the California Proficiency, but then I loved Junior College. I mean, you could take anything, and when I went it was fifty bucks a semester flat rate. And then I totally loved college with a passion. I mean I hated working, but I still loved college and recommend it to everybody. I learned alot. Studied literature and learned how universal we all are.

Thats what I dont understand about people who don't like college.

You can learn about anything you want! How can you not like it?

but you dont get to learn anything you want. You learn the cirriculum they force you to study if you want a degree from that institution.

To original poster. I feel like i can relate to you 100%. I get the same way, especially during the last 4 weeks of the semester. They are my worst. I will work my ass off the first 8 weeks and just get sick and tired of school and stop caring. I'll blow it off and i usually always regret it. I'll find anything I can do to stop myself from studying. Any type of distraction possible.

I must be lucky in having attended institutions where you had a wide choice of classes.

I dont think I ever took a non-math class that I didn't have at least some interest in.

same, I would always start off strong then self-destruct with the last 2-3 weeks. It's quite a shame really. My gpa probably will blow this semester. But I'm determined to stay strong the whole way through next time no matter what it takes.

Same story here. If school's not for you, no reason to force it.

Its a big conglomerated mind fuck re: education. Its literally another business with another set of marketing budgets.

Now, if you want it, you'll get it, but there are simply people for whom school isn't the right choice.

I could google success stories of people that dropped out of whatever, but I'll save myself the homework.

Just find what makes you tick, everything else falls into place afterwards.

No, I love college. It is absolutely fan-fucking-tastic. High school, junior high, and that are horrible. Colleges are on the freemarket which makes the essential difference
