Can anyone who adds extra ingredients really vouch for the fact that they make a difference? If you had two monotubs side by side set up the same way and the mycelium was formed from the same print, lc,or syringe. Would you see a difference between the the tub with the Coir, hydrated lime, gypsum, kelp meal, coffee grounds and worm castings, etc. compared to just a tub with just coir and coffee grounds. on a side note i was under the impression that the vegetable oil was only for healthy and rapid mycelium growth. again can anyone really vouch for that ?

Nope. We just tell you to put those things in your sub because we think it's funny. Next grow, just squirt your spores on the carpet.

You don't want to use lime in a substrate. The mycelium prefers a slightly acidic medium. RR

Yeah, that might help. Get the spicy stuff. I like it, why wouldn't mushrooms? But really, the reason this advice is out there is because it does work. 10% gypsum in your bulk buffers your pH, and seems to increase yields. Coffee or castings add nitrogen. Verm will make your sub more airy, and help it hold water. This is pretty proven stuff. Look, I wasn't trying to be a dick, but it's not like I really am telling you to use drain cleaner, or anything... The evidence is out there, see for yourself.
Oh yeah... something about the lipids in veggie oil being liked by mycelium? Who knows. whatever.
