Ways of Warming a Tent?

Just wondering, I should probably put this in the backpacking forum, but since it hasn't been visited in a month, let alone posted in, I think I'll post this in here.
What are safe ways to warm the interior air of a tent up other than body heat? Fire is obviously not safe unless it can be done in a way that keeps it from touching any part of the tent including a mount that would warm and melt, and one that has enough ventilation.
I was thinking of getting one of those giant zippos w/ a giant handwarmer, and using that.

You can heat up some decent sized rocks in the fire for a few hours then transfer them to a rug or towel inside your tent for hours of heat. Just dont use sandstone, they explode when heated due to the water they contain. Your best bet is a warm sleeping bag, mummy bags are the best. Good luck!

Good idea with the rocks, I would recommend that as well.
More blankets, and a decent mummybag.

Oh man, speaking of cold tents. At Echo Project in October down in Georgia it got warm/hot during the day and then COLD at night, so by about 9:00pm all the tents were completely WET with condensation. So you got back from the shows just SPUN out, really cold, wanting a tent. You get back to a WET tent.
It was weak beans.

another thing, make sure you carry a Space Blanket.
You'll be surprised at how much they help. Whether in the tent or outside and totally fucked by the elements. Endless improvisation, whether it comes to a makeshift shelter, a windbreaker, whatever.

Exactly what I mean. Just imagine, you know those heaters that convert methane into heat w/o fire somehow? A mini one of those would be nice, you'd keep the tent warm and the condensation at a low, but you'd have to vent the tent.

i like the hot rocks idea, but if you bury them and then put your tent on top, it should stay warm all night.

Yeah man it was ridiculous how cold echo was. The saddest thing I ever saw I think was me and 3 other people gathered around a candle with 4 wicks warming our toes. They really should have allowed campfires I think a few people got away with building a fire. The first night all I had was a short sleeve shirt so I was running around with a big orange walmart sleeping bag wrapped around me. People kept asking me if had just broken of jail . Good times though.

Why would you need to heat it? Buy a better sleeping bag.
My bag weighs 4 pounds and I can sleep toasty warm until -22ºC (-8ºF). And as the missus has the zip on the opposite side we even zip up together into one giant bag.

Yeah.. I've always just used a GOOD sleeping bag, and your body heat is all you need! Or are you just chilling out sitting in the tent? I've only ever used them for sleeping..

Leaves are a great insulator. Make a bed of leaves under your tent, and heap leaves over your tent. If it's too slanted and won't hold the leaves up, use sticks to build a crude frame. You can actually line your sleeping bag with leaves too, or at least pile them around the outside. Actually, you could build a debris hut out of leaves and sticks that's warmer than (almost) any tent. A smoking fire will dry out leaves and get rid of bugs.
Heated rocks are a great idea too. Rocks and leaves, a lot cheaper than a new bag...

Ok what you do is go out and get yourself a buddy heater. Search google. Its basically a heater that runs off of the small propane tanks. Heres a picture of one:

They're safe too. It has an automatic sensor that cuts the unit off if it gets too hot arouund the heater. If it gets knocked over it has a cut off switch too.
Anyways. Yeah thats how you do it.

I looked at REI for a tent heater but I came up blank. I'm frankly surprised, but I guess too many people have burned or suffocated.
If your tent has a alcove you can use a hobo stove to warm it up a little bit. What is a hobo stove? It is a tin can with a large hole punched in the side near the bottom. You can fuel it with sticks or twigs, but I prefer alternative fuels such as wax fire starters. If you keep the flames inside the can, the fire is nearly invisible to those watching/trying to locate you.

Oh shit!! Sorry guys thats what i forgot to add!
It has a carbon monoxide sensor that auto-shuts off This is literally the new age of safe heaters.
Read up on them. Buddy heater
The Portable Buddy uses an Oxygen Depletion System (ODS) which is a safety device used to light the heater as well as shut it off if Oxygen levels drop
My uncles ran one in a large domed tent all night long with no problems whatsoever.

Good idea, wonder how much dirt back over the rocks would be appropriate. 2-3 inches or so, wouldnt want to wake up to the bottom of my tent being melted open.
That heater sounds pretty slick. I've slept at some cold ass gatherings and all you need is a good bag and a blanket...I do need to get the feet heat down tho.

I remember my grandfather made a tent with a little stove in it, pretty safe if you put the fire out before you go to sleep.
