Rotting?
    #7766737 - 12/16/07 06:36 PM (16 years, 3 months ago)

Well I picked my first flush yesterday and I dried them with a fan last night for about 10 hours. I put them in a zip lock bag and today they look like they are molding. They are black underneath the caps where the spores would fall. They are not looking good to me but it has only been 36 hours. Would mushrooms rot this fast?

They do not smell bad or anything like that also.

I was thinking that but do the spores drop after they picked? It actually has only been about 30 hours.

10 hours doesn't sound like quite long enough for them to dry completely. Is there any moisture inside the bag?

Yea I am sure there was moisture. I am just trashing the batch and waiting for the second flush. They have been out of the FC for a day. I am planning on dunking them tonight and putting them in the FC tomorrow. Is this enough "rest time"?

Those are probably spores.

Of course spores drop after picking. That is how we make prints. You pic a shroom and cut off the cap, then place the cap on a piece of foil or paper or whatever.

Also, you don't rest the cakes out of the FC, just rest them inside the FC and don't mist.

I would advise you to let them sit out for a few days with a fan on them or put em in a desicant chamber or a dehydrator. Just leaving them on the counter top for a few days is better than bagging them up after 10 hours. They need open air for the water in them to fully evaporate.

if anything keep them in a paper bag while you are storing them. if you are going to keep then in a plastic bag just use an old school baggie and then put them in your freezer.

they should't rot if they were dried properly
