I'm terrible at playing favorites. If it's great, it's great. To measure greatness against greatness might very well be an exercise in futility! I can however, easily tell you which show DIDN'T live up to my standards, and that would have been Widespread Panic @ the Orpheum (Los Angeles, CA).
If pressed for favorites, these would be my top 3 for 2007:- JGB @ the Little Fox (Redwood City, CA)
- RatDog @ the Grove (Anaheim, CA)
- Dave Matthews Band @ the Hollywood Bowl (Hollywood, CA)
Roger Waters Dark Side of the Moon @ the Hollywood Bowl this year was good, but it was the exact same show they did last year!
John Scofield and Dave Brubeck @ the Hollywood Bowl shouldn't be sneezed at either.
In all, it's just been a terrific year of shows for me.
Runners Up:
- RatDog & Keller Williams @ the Greek (Griffith Park, CA)
- RatDog @ the Ventura Theater (Ventura, CA)
- JGB @ the Mint (Los Angeles, CA)
- Dark Star Orchestra @ the el Rey (Los Angeles, CA) 3 times!
- Rodrigo y Gabriela @ the Music Box (Hollywood, CA)
- Gipsy Kings @ the Greek (Griffith Park, CA)
- Phil Lesh & Friends @ the Santa Barbara Bowl (Santa Barbara, CA)
- Cubensis and Dread Zeppelin @ Lake Casitas Campground (Lake Casitas, CA)
- Cubensis @ 14 Below (Santa Monica, CA) many times
- Cubensis & Highway 61 Revisited at the House of Blues (Hollywood, CA) two times
- Paul Oakenfold & Underworld @ the Hollywood Bowl
- Squirrel Nut Zippers @ the el Rey
- Norah Jones @ the Greek
- La Philharmonic @ the Hollywood Bowl (four times)
For 2008, so far I'm booked to see:- George Benson @ Walt Disney Concert Hall (Los Angeles, CA)
- Winton Marsalis @ Smothers Theater (Pepperdine University, CA)
- Kronos Quartet @ Walt Disney Concert Hall (Los Angeles, CA)

Roger Waters is far too predictable.
I saw him years ago and was kind of dissappointed.
It was the first show of his tour, and did not have his shit together at all.
I could tell he made 1 show for the whole tour and was going to just repeat the whole show over and over again every stop along the way.
Kinda boring, but I have a lot of respect for his work still.

Well aside from the blatant repetition, I thought the Waters DSotM tour was actually very well done. The performances were great, the sound was great (he brought in tons of sound reinforcement for the Bowl, along with giant fog machines that filled the outdoor venue). When I saw the show in 2006, he didn't have the fog machines or the DSotM prism lasers, but everything else was the same.. though I was on 14mg of 2C-I the first time around!
Needless to say, it was an experience for the ages!
Congrats on the Marsalis tickets vinsue.

you're gonna think I'm teh ghey, which I am actually, but I saw DMB in Dallas. it was great cuz we had 'lawn' seats... so we just laid out a blanket and chilled and contributed to the big cloud of pot smoke that engulfed the entire lawn section.
nice jam band. good experience. the only other concert i went to this year was red hot chili peppers. The girl I went with was a total cunt and took 12 hydrocones (I didn't find out until later) and drank a shitload of beer. I thought she was going to die and didn't get to watch the intro and then didn't get to see the end or encore b/c she insisted we leave. I'm sure they were good in concert, but I couldn't enjoy it. they were the most expensive tickets too.

That ties with Lollapalooza, though I guess fests can't count as one concert, so I'll say Daft Punks set at Lolla ties.

The Album Leaf @ small venue in LA. This was one of the most amazing shows I've ever seen...really inspiring and just strait badass. Crazy art/post rock with a perfect touch with some hot electronic beats. The openers were also mind blowing.
DJ Krush @ Knitting Factory in LA. DJ krush is a childhood classic for me...this was my first true trip-hop/hip-hop show. It was out of fucking control. Totally different feel than any show I've ever been through. laid down some many classics from all over the place. 4 hours on Halloween night.
Thats all I'm going to write because the other shows (including Roger Waters) were no where close to the other ones listed.

Oh yeah...his rendition of organ donor was one of the big highlights. The crowd was great...but did fall apart towards the very end (it was Halloween...1am in the morning...what can you expect?) It didn't bother me...I was lounging on a couch looking down at this assbag stumbling all over the place and running into people. It was actually very entertaining, so maby that was more of a finishing touch to a night of Krush.

sounds like it was awesome,
I hate the knitting factory but if the crowd was getting into it who cares.
