The language we use

"Don't be a pussy! Grow some balls."
Ever said this to anyone before? Have you ever said it to a woman? Are to understand that women are unable to be courageous? It just seems odd to me that in an age when the "N" word is deemed inappropriate, we still use this misogynistic language without even thinking about it. I'm as guilty of this as anyone else here, but largely because I'm accustomed to it and haven't had any objections from people. I never really considered myself a feminist, but I'm beginning to see a lot of the issues they see in terms of the perpetuation of patriarchy.

Studies have shown that the most aggressive men and women have much higher levels of testesterone than average.
Excess testesterone given to normally docile men and women can indeed change their temperment. 'Roid Rage is a real condition.
As the testes (balls) produce more testesterone than ovaries, it may not be as sexist a comment as you perceive.
While crude, "Grow some balls", an impossibility for men and women as a voluntary act, simply means 'be more assertive'.
Case closed.

what i find retarded is black ppl use the n word like its nothing, but if a white person says it its racist theres an entire college fund that only accepts black students, but a college fund that only benefits white ppl would be called racist
i mean come on ppl, racism is wrong and everything but fuck, the worst is over just let it the fuck go

What I find most interesting is that we are so insecure that we can become offended because some moron says this or that.

Talking about the N word, I've thought about that one a lot myself, why not being a non-black person don't you say "I find that word offensive". If I hear that word that's what I say because I would expect the same reaction from a black person if I said it.
Is it not true, do you in fact get offended when you hear that word uttered by any person. Or at least don't you stop and feel a certain way about it, usually negative?

On The Word "Pussy" As An Insult [Re: wyldeman007]

I used this on my teachers back in high school when they had a problem with the term: Pussy is short for pusillanimous, which means cowardly, weak, and feeble.
It's amazing how much teachers hate to be outsmarted

Its offensive because, regardless of what improvement has been established over the last fifty years, women are still wrongfully viewed as being the weaker sex.
There is no weaker sex. Both genders have their strong and weak points.
As a girl, I must say that it does get a little old after a while, hearing people talk in that manner. Not even so much because it offends me. People who talk that way just end up sounding immature or unintelligent.

Yes, and some women contribute to this status by acting like the weaker sex. It is only offensive for those who have some emotional problems revolving around the issue.

I think that regardless of whether people find it offensive or not, it's useful to examine the type of words we use and the underlying assumptions behind it. It seems that one of the most popular ways to insult a man is to compare him to a woman or to question his sexuality. As someone who has no problem with women or gays, it perplexes me that people would think that comparing me to either group would find it to be such a put-down. The next time you use language like this, just ask yourself, "Do I really believe this?"

Yes, that seems to be exactly the matter. I don't think that we realize why we get angry at things like these. I surprised myself in some moments when I got an emotional response from things about which I couldn't care less if I thought about what they meant. This is because we borrow this kind of response from other people around us, they're like parasites... sort of like randomly picking your nose I guess.
