Forum rules

I'd like to comment on the current state of the mushroom hunting forum rules. I understand the need to maintain some regulations here, especially regarding specific locations and partners. However, I just had a thread closed that seemed completely unnecessary. My post was asking what edible winter varieties existed in the Seattle area. First, I'm not making any reference to specific locations. Second, my question is very specific and is not one of those generic questions that can be answered in the FAQ. There is nothing in the FAQ that answers my questions, and very little that I found helpful using the search tool.
I ask that the moderators consider the threads more carefully before closing them in the future. The forum should be a tool for people to learn and share their knowledge of the world of fungus. Closing threads such as mine only undermines that function of this community. I post this as a constructive criticism, not as a flame.

BoulderBoomer,
Here is your topic that I locked for others to reference:
http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/7731273/an/0/page/1
I'd like to say first that my judgement could very well be clouded right now due to reasons I would rather not talk about in this forum. And also, your topics are always welcomed here as long as they do not infract upon our "rules".
Look in the link I provided. RR pretty much told you what is up. You are clearly new to the area and asking a question that borderlines on seasonal and weather-related condition questions.. again my head is in the clouds right now man, so that probably did not make much sense lol:)
You might not have dug deep enough in your search for info. Sure, our forum has been here for like 10 something years and using the Search Engine for your question might not work out so easily because there are hundreds of topics to read through. Did you ever think to find the websites of dozens of Washington mycological societies near you with mushroom hunting message boards of their own, and check out what they might be finding around this time of year? It just seems to me like you did not dig deep enough to find your answers before creating the topic. That is why I locked it.
Some other guy just PM'd me a complaint yesterday after locking his topic about asking people "are there any weilii's growing right now in atlanta?". He was rambling to me about droughts and temps and rainfall and on and on, so I had to tell him like 5 times to read the Mushroom Hunting Forum Rules, use the Search Engine, use Personal Messages, -or- probably the best advice is Go Out And Look For Yourself. See if you find anything man.
Start by doing that, or PM RR, he is a pro and can point you in the right directions.
It's like if somebody just moved to say Bolivia, and they asked if Oyster mushrooms grow there during the month of December.. well I would probably keep that topic open because nobody has ever posted here from bolivia and it would be a mystery to everyone else here what the hell grows down there. But when you mention the Seattle area, well we have 8,000 topics already in this hunting forum over the years that talk about Seattle-area mushrooms, and hundreds of experienced hunters in that exact area you can freely personal message for information.
Good luck in your search, but you are not going to learn about the mushroom season in Seattle over night.
Keep shroomin GG

I mostly agree with what you're saying GG. Laziness is definitely prominent in the shroomery forums, and many unnecessary posts are created that could easily be answered from searching. However, in my question I was also trying to engage the community in discussing their favorite edibles in the winter. Perhaps even start a lively discussion regarding what other shroomers do to get them through the winter/off season.
I guess I just like chatting. And considering how few posts the hunting forum gets relative to some other forums, I didn't think that to be such a bad thing. I'm just concerned that too many rules could stifle the community feel, thats all.
In addition, I am indeed a new member of one of our local mycological societies. GG, chin up man. I'll send you some good vibrations to help.
