(The Daily Mail)
Police in Amsterdam are complaining over new rules banning them from smoking cannabis while off duty.
Officers in the Dutch capital, famous for its liberal drugs laws, have been told they must set the public "a good moral example".
The ban, due to come into effect on January 1, will make the force the first in the Netherlands to bar officers from using drugs when not at work.
Frank Gittay, the city's police council chairman, said: "Until now police were only banned from showing up for work stoned or drunk.
"But now we are telling officers they should also behave like the police at all times.
"That means not taking drugs and not getting excessively drunk whether on or off duty."
But Dutch police union chairman Hans van Duijn said: "Many of our members are opposed to this.
"They are not paid for 24-hours a day. What they do in their free time is up to them."

The way it should be for most occupations... as long as responsible drug use at home does not adversely effect job performance, then there is no reason for employers to try and micromanage their employees personal life. What is next, no sex on Sunday?

and what do you mean by that? Politicians are concerned with the support of the public, moreso with the vocal public that can alert the sheep to situations they may care about, but are too passive to seek out on their own.
Just cuz you knew some hippy stoners who protested red meat in highschool, but didn't bring down the agriculture industry, doesn't mean citizen protests don't work.
At the local level I witnessed a very liberal senator at the state level flip on a gun-control bill. Totally out of charecter, but they voted against it. Think they suddenly changed their position on their own, against that of their party, or do you think it was the phone calls, letters, and editorials in the local papers that changed their position?
I don't much care for people who make statements like "it doesn't work" when they've likely never had the support of a signifigant number of people behind their cause.
Once you get a critical mass, you can accomplish things.

Our high school football coach would tell us no fucking before game day, he'd be like "when your at your girlfriends house tonight make sure just to have her blow your off and tell her the coach wants you to save it for the game and then remember to thank me for the blowjob tomorrow" that guy was great.

Naw, I disagree, they can work. Not always, but they can. It's that kind of attitude that keeps the people at home with the 'I can't make a difference in this world' thinking. The energy people feel when they mass together can overwhelm the status quo.
I prescribe a dose of V for Vendetta, than kick it back with some Rage Against the Machine. Side effects are a change of perception, but the next morning your energy should be restored.
