Hey again everyone I got a question regarding Pasteurization. right now There's 4 quarts of colonized wbs ready to spawn, and having to work with what I got I was looking for some advice. My initial plan was to mix some hydrated straw cut into 2-3 inch length with some cow manure/compost and bring it to field capacity, place in an oven bag tie it off poke a meat therm into the core and follow the typical times and temps, but i got to reading about the dry heat and seen where roger rabbit had said something about if you had to use oven bags to do it in a kettle on the stove top, but didn't see any further elaboration on this topic. so i was wondering could i fill a pot up with some water , lie a old towel in the bottom and place my oven bag in this water place the meat thermometer into the core and regulate the temp and pasteurize this way , or perhaps place the oven bag in a cake pan and fill it with a little water around the outside of the oven bag stick the meat therm in this and regulate the temp, is this what RR meant . would it work? just looking for a little advice and another thing these 4 quarts should be enough to spawn to 22 qt of bulk sub right? thanks for the help guys and ladies.....peace

You want the interior of the substrate material to reach 140F to 160F for one hour. Ovens are horrible for pasteurization. Water conducts heat much faster and more evenly than air.
Use jars or several bags so the water circulates between each bag, rather than one large bag. Place the bags in the cold water of the kettle and turn on the stove. Maintain desired temps using a meat thermometer. Search 'pasteurization tek' and my name for how I do it. RR
