mouth/throat/lung cancer, bronchitis , something else, or all in my head?
    #7756479 - 12/13/07 10:54 PM (16 years, 1 month ago)

i think i may have one or more of them right now, im only 20 and i have been smoking cigarettes, about a pack every 24 hours, for about 6 or 7 years now, but combined with eating habit, lots of cheese and meat, very little vegetables or fruits, and the way i smoke, hot boxing, probably might be the cause of the symptoms i am experiencing.

anyway the symptoms are as follows:

-for the past 4 or 5 months i have been 'trying' to clear my throat.(coughing)

-for the past week the back of my tongue and my throat have had this bad stinging problem like i sallowed a bee and it stung me multiple times as it went down. today i have also been experiencing a 'pulling' feeling every time i swallow.

- also for 4-5 months i have had problems breathing while laying down, it just doesnt feel like i am getting enough oxygen to my brain

- extreme chest pains at times, especially on the left side.

- sometimes when i cough i can taste blood but when i spit into a tissue there is none.

- i experience full body spasms while laying down(almost like seizures) which also make my heart rate extremely high.

i have no clue what any of these symptoms mean, im hoping nothing, but since a few of them have lasted as long as they have i am getting worried. i also must mention that i havent seen a doctor since i was about 8 and my only chance of getting to see one is through my mother which she does not even seem to bother listening to me, so i doubt ill be seeing one any time soon either.

Seriously the only one who can diagnose you properly is a doctor. Four or five months of symptoms are a good cause for sucking it up and seeing one.

i have no possible way of seeing one, that is my problem, unless all of a sudden they make seeing a doctor free of charge, but thats not the case here in the states.

Stop smoking for a while and see if it clears up.

yeah im going to have to, but my problem is i have no self control ever since ive been able to purchase my own cigarettes. i honestly wish i could go back into rehab just to kick cigarettes, but i doubt theyd even let me in for just tobacco. not that i could afford it anyway, im jobless and have no health care without my mother which i doubt is going to let me use it for that if she wont even take me up to a doctor to have a check-up that ive been needing for 12 years.

Nevertheless, you've gotta try to quit smoking. I know it's hard - I quit myself after 24 years of smoking, but if I can do it, anyone can.

Hey I have the same problem as you do, only that when I lay down my neck starts to feel numb too.
I suspect that it's from cigarettes.
I quit smoking about a month ago and I already feel much better.
Other than that, I went to take different kinds of tests and there's nothing wrong with me except a form of arrhythmia, but nothing serious.
I noticed that when I feel very tired I experience these problems. Also what I learned is that, instead of insisting to go to sleep in those moments, taking a relaxing bath, drinking a tea and simply breathing some fresh air do the trick. After I do all that I can go to sleep without any inconvenience.
However, I'd advice you to go to the doctor too, because it's better to be totally safe and know your health status.
And yeah, quit smoking.
I've been smoking for almost 10 years and never thought I would be able to quit.
It's easier than I thought, all you have to do is stop thinking about them.

How could that stuff be in your head? Extreme chest pain?

Man, your health is shit, and you have to treat your body better. This isn't going to go away without a serious change in your life. You know what you have to do. Don't sit on your hands about this one.

Self-control is not something you have or don't have. It's something you do or don't do. Take responsibility for this, or man are you gonna suffer.

Nicotine withdrawal is a goddamn cakewalk compared to cancer.

They work but don't expect miracles.
You will still feel like smoking so you still have to resist.
But yeah, it's not that hard and I think it's fully worth it. Health is the most important, don't fuck it up.

yeah i think thats my problem, im not getting irritable or anything from nicotine withdrawal...yet, i just feel like i need to smoke something, the feeling i crave most is having the smoke travel down my throat and into my lungs.

so i guess my only way of doing this the quickest way is cold turkey, i just checked out some gums and such and they say the physical withdrawal from nicotine is still gonna last anywhere from 4-8 weeks, because there is nicotine in the gums, whereas when ive quit before cold turkey style(was a minor in rehab-couldnt get cigarettes at all) i only had the physical withdrawal last me a week tops, the rest was all in my mind.

The cheese will make the phlegm way worse. Cut the smoking and the dairy and eat some veggies and I promise you it'll make a big difference.

Good luck man, you still have a chance to nip this one in the bud right now.

BTW drinking more water is a simple way to improve how you feel, unless you already drink a lot if it.
