Well, happiness all around. First time out has produced a container with (literally) dozens of pins growing towards maturity, expect first one's out before the weekend. Happy, happy!
Did it with (now realized) a way too expensive kit, but am not unhappy as the interest generated by the process led to the discovery of shroomery.org and the various cheaper tek's here, and now there'll be a spore print to work with in a few days.

And so's the second! The second flush was harvested this morning - in kind of a rush, unfortunately, they opened up in the night and I slept late, so it was a rush to get 'em picked and drying before I had to leave for work. 
But WOW, what a batch! Although I wasn't able to count or weigh 'em, as I was picking them, I stacked 'em on a 10' plate, and by the time I was done, I had a pile at least 6-8" tall, covering the entire plate. Caps were about 1.5-2" in diameter, with stipes 3/4" in diameter (I know, I need to get a camera). Much more (3-4x) 'mushroom mass' than the first flush.
I was looking at the substrate, and it's had a considerable reduction in mass, so I don't know if I'll get anymore flushes out of it, but even if not, my first grow succeeded beyond my best hopes.
Now, it's time to start working on some non-kit grows - thanks to moe, I'll be using the casing to seed some outdoor grow opportunites, then - who knows? Should be fun regardless, since I'm having almost more fun learning about the various methods and biology of this hobby than in the actual results. Must be the geek in me....

Isn't that the best feeling? I had friends who had tried to grow years ago tell me that I shouldn't expect very much at all on my first try "its really hard" Well, that could not have been further from the truth, and you're right, it is a lot of fun too!

Soon you'll find the cheapest way. Looking back now I realize just how anal I was with the process when I first started. Now I cut all kinds of corners without failure.
