Ok its winter here my set up is in the basement which is heated but about 65 degrees. I have a ultrasonic running 24hours a day.
Ok heres the thing, I used to use a TiT incubator, but this last incubation I had alot of contams. One things that was different was moisture inside the tub dripping off the walls and even pooling in the bottom. Alot of my seed was dry. Was I evaporating through the filter disk I asked myself, I dunno. So I switched it up. I am now incubating in a refrigerator with a heating pad at a slightly lower temp. Same filter disk tops, this time no beading of evaporative moisture, but it still looks like my seed is drying out. One other thing I dont remember from any prior incubation is the seed smell, you know the smell right when you open the pressure cooker for the first time after sterilizing. The smell its not strong but its there for sure. Is it just me or maybe the environment causing this to happen?

I don't think you are loosing your water through the patch in the short time the spawn is in their. Probably the grain is not hydrated to the core to begin with. I have opened a few qrts that were junk that had set around for 2 months with no noticeable lose of moisture.

Well I soaked the seed 2 different ways just to see if there was a differnece. Half I did in a pan so it was cold water for 34 hours the other I did in a cooler with warm to hot water for 34 hours so they have to be hydrated right.

why are you running an ultrasonic in the basement. Are you using the whole basement as a fruiting chamber?

I run the ultrasonic in the basement which is a semi finished room in the basement. The reason why I run it is because my fruiting chamber has a hepa filter I draw air into thechamber with and being winter I have to put a heater semi near the input so I also humidify near there also that way not to put dry air into the chamber.

You don't need a hepa or any other filter for a fruiting chamber. It will dry out your substrates too fast.
From the looks of the seed in your first picture, I'd say they're not too dry. RR

at least this guy has read some stuff. maybe too much. His jars/setup looks great. Like rr said, no need for a hepa down there. Running the humidifier down there isnt a good idea. basements stay damp as is and increase the rh of the whole room is bound to cause problem with molds. I would just keep the ultrasonic hooked up to the fc. The high humidity might cause problems in the filter also. It could germinate bad spores that are trapped in there

Tahoe Thanks for the feedback. I will take your advice and cut out the 2nd ultrasonic. Because now that I think about it I used to have to run a dehumidifier down there.
RR yeah your right they were drying out to fast so I compensated. When my fans turn on so does my ultrasonic also does the external heater. Since these changes I had had great success in the chamber as for the incubator I dont know what the hells up!
Thanks
