$7,500 to invest, serious replies please

Hello all,
I have $7,500 I want to invest. It has been in a CD for around a year now, and while it makes nice money, I am looking for something a bit more fruitful.
I am willing to take some risks, but nothing too crazy. I am not interested in gold, silver, coins etc.
I don't want to put it into any kind of retirement fund.
If you have any ideas, places to start or personal experiences to share I would greatly appreciate it.
PS: No I don't want to spend it on drugs, or send it to you (majority of the responses on another message board).
Thanks

Whats CD?
I keep my stash in a high interest tax free account.
My bank manager keeps telling me to invest in their stocks and shares programs but I don't like the risk.
At least my hard earned cash is safe, if I risk it I could lose it all.

want to invest in an independent record label, full of amazingly beautiful, local, true spirit?

or give it to lots of people who really need it?

It hasn't made any money, its inherent value just has declined slower than it would have in US dollars.. but in Canadian Dollars you still lost value, even though the number in US dollars has become bigger.
Why not gold? Why not silver? It is a serious investment opportunity at this point in time.
Aww, just subtract $1.400 from your investment sum and buy a 100 oz bar of silver. It's the size of a small brick so it's not like it'll get in your way. Many experts assume it'll be worth $3.000-$10.000 in a couple of years. (but: do your own research!)
Whatever you do.. read up on REAL INFLATION. However you invest, if you live in the USA and it nets you less than 5-10% increase in a year, that isn't a gain but a LOSS. Learn about what the REAL STORY is about the dollar.

Yeah, inflation averages out at 4% here (UK) so if your interest is less than that you are effectively losing money!
The problem with asking other people about investments is theres not many people that will speak honestly. Most people will try to get you to invest in their pie. (I exclude you from that though wiccan, you have a sound knowledge)

I'd look into investing in commodities at the moment. But its much easier to talk about making money than making money.

It's worse EgoDeath. USA.. Europe, the UK and so forth.. Take the figure they give you and double it. Don't fall for the mantra that its just 4%, its way worse than that. An important rule of thumb:
Whenever you are presented with official numbers, you can be certain they have been manipulated to at least some extent in someone's favor. That someone, most often, is not you.
For instance, have you looked at oil prices recently? Just about everything needs oil to come into being or to get it to you. World food prices? up, up, up. We've been producing less food than we're consuming for some years now. Raw materials? Base metals?
The age of prosperity fueled by cheap oil, the one we grew up in in the latter half of the 20st century, is coming to an end. The only savior out there, deuterium fusion, will only be ready to meet our growing energy needs after 2020, and add two decades to that for fullscale implementation.
The OP is looking for an investment opportunity, but what he needs might be a lifeboat instead.

Silver could be a good one if it follows the trend it seems of started but then you have other problems are you gonna buy pure gold gold and store it?
Are you gonna pay a security box to store it in or risk keeping it at home?
You can buy shares but then theres other cost involved.
My point? Its all a gamble, man!
Personally I would come up with a good business plan and invest in that. I'm always having business ideas though. I have an entrepreneurs brain that met ganga and decided to keep making ideas but never actually do any

No shares, futures and all that stuff. Actual physical gold or silver, no paper promises. Paper promises got us into a lot of this mess.
We've been making a hundred promises and only can make good on a dozen. That's the financial/economic reality we're facing. That's the financial/economic catastrophe we're facing.
Quote:

Safe deposit box. If you keep it at home, it's one home invasion and you're flocked like so many sheep have been before you.

True, but there are low-risk bets and high-risk bets.
You can be sure that money will become worth less and less. Central banks and the federal reserve see to that. But lately there is trouble stirring and the value behind money is PLUMMETING. You can also be sure that if you invest your money in something attached to a relatively fixed amount of money, you'll be losing money.
Commodities and real estate are the way to go in my view. Tangible stuff that will cost more money if the currency dwindles - and which will fetch you more money if you own it and sell.
As a figure of speech: today you can buy a chicken for $10, tomorrow you'll be selling its eggs for $10 a piece.
Dollars, Pounds, Euros.. you won't BELIEVE what you'll pay for your groceries in 10, 15 years, and how little today's saving mean then.

Clean water is one of the biggest problems today, and I wouldn't be surprise if anything water related would be a good investment.

google. invest in google. i had $2000 just sitting around when google opened its stock to the public..... im still kicking myself in the ass for not investing like i wanted to. their stock has been soaring and is projected to keep soaring, especially with the news of their plans to jump into the mobile phone market.
a buddy of mine invested in them nearly a year ago. he has made exceptional gains.
