Okay, so I have two foil cake tins full of coffee coir (spawned from WBS) at like 90% colonization each that should be ready to fruit in a day or two. However, in one week i'm leaving for 10 days. What should I do? Should I wait until just before I leave to put the casings in the FC? Or should I just go ahead and case it when it's ready? Will there be any problems if it fruits while I'm away (i.e. will the fruits rot or anything? it doesn't matter if they sporulate all over themselv 'cause i'll just make them into chocolates )

put it in the fridge? i would just start it before i left man you should come back to ether pins or half devoloped mushers
the thing you have to worry about is FAE's and your light cycle, as well as your humidity

I once had to leave for a week right before it was time to initiate pinning on some cakes. I ended up just turning down the room temperature and leaving them. When I came back, I had fruits that were ready for picking.
I'd say just see try it and see what happens.

thanks a lot for your help, guys. I have a timer for my lights, so that's no problem. Do you think I'll have sufficient air exchange by putting the casings in a big tub with perlite on the bottom and tyvek/polyfill holes all around? I think I read somewhere that this provides merely passive air exchange when you're trying to initiate pinning, which isn't enough. Maybe I could install a computer fan (filtered with a layer or two of tyvek) on a timer to the lid or something... or maybe I can get enough FAE just by pointing a fan at the tub?
Any advice?

You don't really need all that tyvek/polyfill in your fruiting chamber. The chamber isn't sterile at that point and what's staving away contamination is the fresh air exchange, which the tyvek/polyfill won't help. A fan is a good idea but whether it'll be sufficient or not I don't know.

Hmm, okay. It just seems that all of the monotubs on this site utilize polyfill or tyvek. Is that just for the colonization portion of the project, not fruiting? If I were to merely drill a bunch of holes in a tub filled with perlite wouldn't the perlite dry out relatively quickly? I guess it's all a big compromise between maintaining humidity and FAE...

update:
fucking casings dried out. oh well, you live and learn. i know that if i had been around i'd have caught it early and i probably could have saved it.
collective yield from 4 qt. of colonized WBS: 0.7g dry aborts
these were grown on coffee and coir. should i expect decent potency because they're aborts?

Was there only one flush? Did it get moldy or something? Maybe you can dunk and get a real flush or two out of them still.
