Losing my COX cable. Time Warner or AT&T instead?
    #7751619 - 12/12/07 10:04 PM (16 years, 1 month ago)

So I'm moving to a new apartment. I've had COX for nearly a decade now and I've always recieved great service with them. They provide the works for me; all my TV (up to and including high-def), DVRs, my internet access, and even my home phone. But unfortunately COX doesn't service the apartment I'm moving to.

So I have a choice between Time Warner Cable or AT&T for my services in the new place. I'm not as worried about the TV channels but I want a good, reliable, fast internet connection. How can I find out what my best option is?

AT&T is boasting about the fact that they have recently strung all new fiber-optic lines but I don't know enough to know whether this is just a marketing ploy or not. I have a feeling it is, but I'm kinda cynical when any company makes any claim about their products/services.

The biggest bummer is that I'm gonna lose my COX e-mail address. I've had it for so long that its tied in to almost every account I have on-line. This e-mail change will be even more of a pain in the ass then the physical addredss change!

Anyway, if anyone has thoughts about what the best options are or how to find out in advance which company will provide the best service then I would appreciate it.

So, no help here huh? AT&T has better packages on TV/phone/internet bundles at lower prices. But the internet access through AT&T is DSL rather then cable. I'm afarid I'll notice some lag after having a good solid cable connection for so many years. Thoughts?

I never had Cox, but about 6 months ago went from Verizon Dsl,
to just the 1.7 lite, cable by TWC, and haven,t had one problem
that I know of. And I do a LOT of torrent stuff.

Merry Christmas:cool:

My buddy in NYC has Time Warner, and he's very please with them.

If the quality of service is just as good on the west coast, I'd say go with them.

Ive used COX, AT&T, Charter and TWC... Cox is my personal favorite but TWC is definately a close second. Id say the support and internet speed are about the same (with the packages I had) but I put cox over TWC because I have used it longer and know there hardware and software better on the DVR stuff.

I use cox, they are called suddenlink now though, and I've always liked it, cable is a lot faster than DSL around here, but verizon is the only DSL available.

peace

at least atnt doesn't force you to purchase a phone line like they used to (back when they were SBC).

But one of the predecessors was involved w/ the warrantless wiretap nonsense w/ the NSA ( I think the company that was ATnT). So if that means anything, go with timewarner.

I guess TWC was the right choice.  I don't think DSL could ever come close!

Here was a speed test a couple weeks ago with my old COX service...

Here was a couple speed tests this morning at the new place with Time Warner Cable...

No complaints. :smirk:

As a sidenote now, does anyone have a reccomended free e-mail service I could start using?  I'd like to find something that works well so I never have to dump my e-mail address again when changing internet providers.  I keep a Yahoo e-mail account but I don't like their interface.  I'd like to find a free service that I can configure to use with Outlook Express.  (Or maybe I'm just stupid and can already do this with Yahoo as well.  Come to think of it I never checked.)
