Hello! I was hoping you guys could help me. I have been reading a lot into growing magic mushrooms, and I have a few questions for you guys.
1. First and foremost, where the hell can i find vermiculite besides online? Agway? Home Depot?? 2. How do I make a syringe out of a print, or can i just use the print directly? 3. Is there a easier TEK? (Compared to PF-TEK)
If anyone can answer these questions for me, I will be very grateful. Thank you.

Search function. Top right. Use it. Love it .
1. Uline store. 2. Follow a tek: Basically sterile water + little spore print + syringe = syringe or yes. 3. No.

Click where it says "main site" in the top right corner of this page. Click "mushroom cultivation", then click the "mushroom cultivation FAQ" link and start reading.

I get vermiculite from Home Depot. It is fireplace verm, used to simulate ashes. Works fine.

Home Depot is hit-or-miss. There are about 4 of them within a 20 mile radius of me. All of them carried the big 4cu ft bags in the past, but only one has it now and of course it's the farthest one away. Lowes around me usually has the smaller bags. Ordering online sucks. The shipping usually costs more than the verm itself.

For verm - I live in a rural area and I was able to find some, so I'm sure you will. Just call the floral shops in the area, one is bound to have it. A study showed that verm MIGHT contain small amounts of asbestos, so its a lot harder to find than it use to be, but it is still a pretty invaluable tool for hardcore gardeners.

I was wondering myself where I could find vermiculite in Sydney. I might ring around tomorrow.

pf tek is as easy as pissing in the sea.
If you do it right, you can't miss.
It is a one step procedure (just mix up all the stuff), doesn't need a pressure cooker and produces more than enough for personal consumption.
I'll give you an example. I was feeling bored the other day, there was nothing good on the TV, so I said, what the heck, I'll make some pf jars. I decided to make six, just to get enough to make some prints to send to FSRE.
It took me half an hour to clean my jars out in the sink, grind the rice, mix it all up, spoon it in, close, cover in foil and put on to boil, in a pan not PC. In the time it was boiling (I do 90 min from when it starts to boil) I made supper, eat it and washed the dishes. I set the jars aside, next day knocked them up (10 min) with part of a couple spore syringes I had lying around and put them in a closed in my living room (not a incubator, not a particularly warm house either).
In three days growth was visible and in a week I am already at 50% colonization.
How easier can you get?

wow, its really that easy? you can just wash your tools in the sink just like that and not control the temperature? thanks for the confidence boost! as soon as I get some money together, i'm going to get the materials and give it the ol college try.

Yeah I'm pumped about starting. My syringe is in the mail. Think I'll do something bulk after I get the basics down, since a lot of buddies have been wanting to get in on it. But PF seems to be the standard first-grow tek.

A good wash with soap will get rid of most crap on a non porous surface like glass or metal, and the boil will kill of any left over bacteria/spores.
The jars I told you about before even had some bits of 8 month old cake in them as I never cleaned them after birthing last time I used them.
