Probably metabolites. I've never heard of an orange contaminate.
Or even a word that rhymes with orange.

i had some orange blotching on one of my PF cakes. it defenetly looked like a contam, but i couldn't identify it based on the threads on here. it stopped colonizing at about 75%, and after it became obvoius it wasnt going anywhere i cracked it opened and smelled it, it smelled like sour rotting funkyness... like fermentation. just some strange bug i guess. it was my first grow attempt and i just wasn't that careful.
but it was defenetly a dull rusty orange color, blotchy, growing at a couple different points towards the bottom of the jar.

That sounds like bacterial contamination.
Rust and orange are two different colors, especially in the mycology world. Rust is a brown, orange-> think pumpkin.

My dad used to own a restaurant. We used to have a bucket where the spent coffee grounds went, and once full it went on to the compost heap (I wish I had started growing sooner, all that wasted coffee grounds). That bucket always had a colony of this bright orange mold (really bright, like a orange text underliner marker thingy) growing in it.
I doubt this is your case. Post a pic so we can see what it is.

yeah, mine was a dull brownish orange, not a bright pumpkin orange. i'm sure it was a bacterial infection, but i'm a noob so who knows. I should have taken a pic before i tossed it. all i know is on my next attempt i'm going to take all the little anal sterile steps much more seriously. with the amount of patience and effort it takes, theres no point in half assing anything. it just took my first lackluster flush to realize that.
