Is there a need to pasteurize casing?
    #7749270 - 12/12/07 12:55 PM (16 years, 1 month ago)

I'm about to put on a casing, I fruited once with out... Do I need to pasteurize my casing substrate or sterilize it? Its going to be Miracle Grow peat moss / Verm 50/50 ... I'm going to do it tonight. 2 more things: there's a few big pins, is it ok to case over them and should I incubate after putting on the casing layer or keep in the FC? heres a pic of the tray I'm going to case, one on left. thank you so much for the help... Sollest

Some species of fungus require the casing layer to be pasteurized. Cubensis does not. I have tried both, and I noted a great decrease in casing layer contamination when I started sterilizing it instead of pasteurizing.

So I should pasteurize or just mix & go? Also no one mentioned anything about what I should do after I case it, should I put it back into incubator or keep in FC?

You shouldn't put it back in. Just leave it in the fc. The fruits will come up through it.

Casing with already formed pins is not a problem.
