My computer's abot to kick the bucket.
    #7748980 - 12/12/07 11:45 AM (16 years, 1 month ago)

Bah, the motherboard's having problems, the DVD drive won't even eject (no matter what one I install onto there), the videocard cuts out and sometimes I don't get any video unless I take it out and put it back in and mess w/ it, etc.

I can't afford another computer, and my super old 5 year + old computer is finally trying to die.

blows dude. what kind of mobo problems are you having? is the processor still good?

you could try to replace the parts one at a time. start with the DVD drive... a new one is only like 35 bucks. over the next couple of weeks, save up some money for a mobo. saving 20 bucks a week will give you enough for a decent mobo in no time.

that's basically what i've done. slowly added memory, HDs, replaced the mobo, added disk drive over time. like a span of 3 or 4 years. now it's time to replace the processor i think. it's been buggy for a long, long time, and it's going on like 6 or 7 years old. blegh. not looking forward to laying down the 190 bucks for a new one... but i want quality and speed.

It was doing good until about last month,  The computer is 5 years old when I put it together, but parts off it are even from my old computer from 1999 and 2000.i guess i'll do piece by piece.

I hear that AMD isn't the way to go anymore too. :frown:

core 2 duo is where it's at. you could do a package mobo/cpu combo deal to save like 40-50 bucks.

For your dollar amd dual cores out perform intel dual cores. Amd is still the way to go, unless you want to pay more for something that performs less.

oh? i haven't heard that. not saying you're wrong though, because i certainly haven't been keeping up with the times. i won't be going AMD though, because i don't feel like replacing my mobo which works just fine.

That almost sounds like it could be a power supply getting weak. Probably the cheapest thing to try, too.

try reformatting, if that doesn't work, take it aLLLL apart, dust it off, and put it back together.

If that doesn't work, get angry.

I wish I could afford to build that system now. I've got the LianLi Tower w/ a 700watt powersupply sitting there, waiting. >:0

Looks like I am wrong intel has caught back up. It's still a really close battle.

oh fuck titties...  i just realized that my mobo is older than i was thinking and it's only socket 478 :crankey:.  this means if i want to replace the cpu, i have to replace the mobo as well.

that's like $300 right there.  fuck.  maybe no upgrading for me.
