Outdoor Bed Blueprint
    #7748503 - 12/12/07 09:36 AM (16 years, 1 month ago)

I live by the equator in a tropical climate so its always humid and it doesnt snow.

I plan on making an outdoor bed that I can just water and harvest when they fruit.

I want it to be like 2ft wide and 4ft long.

Now I have all my supplies- colonized jars, peatmoss, cow manure, and straw. Im just confused if it can just did up a part of the ground to put in the ingredients. Ive looked at some outdoor bed teks but im not sure if I can just dig it up and add the layer of mycelium, then a layer of moistened straw, cow manure, moistened straw, and peatmoss on the top.

If I keep this from drying out by watering it and stuff how long should i be expecting fruits?

And how long will this mycelium net work live and fruit for? (if its always moist and the air is relatively humid)

I won't vouch for this tek, as I too am a first time grower, doing it indoor pf style. But when I was reading through the outdoor teks, some
user named stoned_myconaut posted a pretty sound tek (or atleast it has 5 stars)

Here is the link to it: Outdoor Growing

Ya thats where I got my idea from. I was just going to put it all together without the wooden frame. Ive been reading and apparently snails eat pins? I got snail killed food that if they eat it they die so maybe ill put that on outside of bed

Forget the peat unless you're going to mix it with native soil for the last 1 cm or so.

Make your bed no more than 4" deep. Fill that area with cow or horse manure. Mix your colonized jars of mycelium into this and cover with 1 cm of soil or soil/peat mix. Water well, but then allow to dry out pretty well between waterings. Wait two months, and if your rainy season hasn't started yet, you can encourage fruiting by running a lawn sprinkler in the area for a couple of days. Be sure to set up this patch in a shady, but well lit area. The straw is good for a light mulch over the top.

I was planning on keeping it watered and moist at all time to try n get it to fruit.

RR- your tek seems alot different than the one I read. simply on the way the stuff goes into the ground. I geuss I have to try this out and see how it works.

would I have any problems with not putting down a wooden frame that keeps the "outdoor bed" from touching the feral ground?

The Stoned guys tek was wrote from a southern us point of view, which has a soil content that is predominantly sand. If you have solid soil, I really wouldn't concern myself with such measures.

Don't use a frame. Allow the manure and soil to mix.

I he can live knowing that he will be introducing a none native possibly destructive species to his area which can cause irreversible damage to the Eco system and cause global warming do to the increased co2/green house gases these will produce.

RR when you say let the patch dry up pretty well before re watering, do you mean let the surface dry up or the core of the patch?

And do you use a special soil or just some from the garden?

Thank you.
