Planet Earth HD DVD
    #7748222 - 12/12/07 07:33 AM (16 years, 1 month ago)

Has anyone tried watching the HD DVD of Planet Earth while they are tripping. I am getting an HD DVD player for x-mas and I think that planet earth might be my first buy. I have seen parts of it in stores on some nice tvs and it just seems like something that would be fantastic to watch whilst tripping. I have a 55" HD tv and I just can't wait to try it out. I hardly even use the HD on my tv because I don't really watch cable so it would be stupid for me to pay an extra 30 bucks a month just for 15-20 more channels. HD while tripping just seems like something that would be amazing.

~Peace Out

Top idea. I don't have an HD television, but I have the complete Planet Earth series, and I'll try this soon.

It is fantastic i got it on bluray not sure ifits out on HDDVD?

But watching it on a 40" HDTV thru my PS3 and its fkin amazing! I only put it on at the end of the trip but it really was great, laser cosmos is still the ultimate though

I did this saturday just gone and will do it everytime i trip from now on.....ialso ordered sum scenes from space because the most amazing thing about the planet earth while tripping is seeing the earth floating in space and those amazing horizon shots where you can see the curvature of the earth, my friend who i was with at the time was tripping too hard and was scared to open his eyes for 1/2 the trip thought it was good while he could watch it, i kept pausing it and it was bringing tears to my eyes...we live on such a gorgeous planet, i think that taking a look at the nothingness of close space, we are very special and very fortunate to live on a planet thats thriving with so much life.

Thats what i came away with anyway....

It is definitely available on HD DVD, Ive seen it at bestbuy for around $100 (pricey!) I have it on regular dvd and yes its great to watch while tripping, although I got a little bored with it. I like to move around and do different things so sitting through an hour long episode was kinda hard for me. Be sure to check out the mushrooms growing on the "Jungle" episode!

Yeah best buy is a rip off. Actually every store is rip off the internet is a much better place to buy things. At amazon it is available new for $66.95 with free shipping. IF it is $100 at best buy than I guess the $66 is a real steal. I just can't wait to have my HDDVD player. It would be nice to have a player that plays both formats because they both have exclusives that I would really like to see. I am planning on getting a PS3 eventually anyways for FFXIII but I am going to wait for it to come down some more. So then I will have both and I won't have to worry about the format wars.

One nice thing I like about HD DVD is they are making some movies with the ability to still put the HD DVD into a Standard DVD player and play the standard definition movie. I only have one HD tv in my house and will only have one HD PLayer beacause of $$$$. But I can still buy a HD DVD and play it in my bedroom on the standard tv.

Some of the footage that i've seen from planet earth just looks fantastic. I agree that it would be something for the comedown of a trip, but nonetheless it would be fantastic. I too like to move around alot and change scenery while I am tripping. I used to just stay in the living room with 360 visuals and shpongle, DSOTM, or Incubus, but now I just can't sit there like that.

I like to go outside and now that it is cold out I can only stay out there for a while then I start shaking terribly. But there is just something about the cold when I am tripping that I absolutely love. OH yeah and the smell of ice. Total ecstasy.

~Peace Out

the first time i tripped alone (just a few months ago) i watched a planet earth dvd while i was coming down. it was the only thing to watch that seemed interesting. i think blue planet could be even better for such an occasion though.

Because its cheaper and uses the same resolution. Blu-ray will lose.

When I was tripping on shrooms once, Planet Earth was on Discovery HD. It was amazing. HD Planet Earth is by far the best thing to watch while tripping.

Blue ray is already 2:1 over hd dvd and why would you choose a disc that holds 25GB less.

Because the extra space is simply not necessary and its too expensive. Its not 2:1 unless you can prove it to me.

Yeah you definitely can't say that blue-ray is better because of ps3 sales, because I believe that the ps3 is the biggest flop sony has ever had in a game system. I know way more people that have 360s than ps3s. PS3s are a rip off and there aren't very many good games for it.

Your repair should have been free. Mine just broke and the repair was free due to microsoft giving everyone a 3 year warranty.

I like anything with tropical fish and oceanic life. Does anyone have any good suggestions of videos that include this. Also anything that includes the rain forest and beautiful insects. I haven't watched the planet earth series much at all. Any good documentaries on space etc is good too!

I think I should start an internet TV station called "tripp'n the universe" for us shroomerites. I may when I get the internet, i have some old boxen lying around that would suffice

Yeah that is only for the red ring of death. The warranty is still one year for all other problems. Mine had a problem with reading games and movies. unreadable disk every time. I didn't get it fixed for a long time because I was pissed about paying $100 to fix something that i bought a year and half ago that was $400. But after a while I decided to do it pretty much because of halo 3. Plus the $100 isn't too bad when you look at what is included. another year warranty and shipping are both included in that. So it really isn't that bad of a deal. Plus I've heard that they are adding HDMI ports to the repairs sent in. But we will see about that tomorrow.

I'm into the same type of TV.

I have an HD TV, but my tivo is not HD :frown: The HD tivos cost way too much right now.

Back on the HDDVD vs Blueray topic: Why choose the format with smaller space. Which ever one wins out will be replaced at some point, why not make it last a bit longer.
