Pressed kief is dry and hard, its also pretty hard to smoke alone and isnt very potent.
GOOD hash...like bubble hash or marble hash....has a hard texture, but much more soft and movable than pressed kief, which will crumble when trying to rip it apart. A good hash will stay together.
Good marble hash is usually a mixture of high potency hash oil and bubble hash. Its really good :]
Oh and pressed kief doesnt smell that good (in my experience). A good hash will be more stinky than your favorite strain.

^Also that is pretty subjective, thats only my experience with hash. I'm sure there is good pressed kief out there (yet i haven't smoked it)

Hash = pressed kief
How do you think they make it?
You press it hard enough, all those trichromes open up and you get a solid.

So whats the crystals that fall off weed, I always thought that was kief, rather than pressed "shit-I-was-talking-about". I also thought that hash was compressed "shit-I-was-talking-about"

I knew I was right, just confusing hearing others explain it like kief and pressed kief are different things, and hash as pressed kief with oil or some additive.

The crystals on the buds are called TRICHOMES.
Aggregations of TRICHOMES is called KIEF.
This is the yellow-green to dark-green powder-ish substance.
It can be loose, or can be compressed into pellets, rocks, etc..
Hash is made several ways. Compressed hash AKA hippie hash is kief that has been put in a press. The extreme pressure it endures changes its composition slightly.
Hash can be made with other ways too (to name a few): butane extractions, bubble-bags, or silkscreens.
A butane extraction involves a length of PVC pipe and filling it with trim/shake/buds. Take a can of butane, and run all of it thru the PVC pipe (with caps w/ holes on the ends). The end result is a goo-hash, which you let sit and all the butane evaporates out, and you are left with high quality goo.
Bubble-bags are used to make bubble-hash. You put your material in ice-cold water in the bubble bags and do stuff...to make it... hash... Not too clear on this process. 
Silkscreens are fun! You start out with the kief (and shake/trim/buds). After each sifting, the result is a finer material, which, run through enough times will be some awesome hash!

Bud is dried and agitated on a silk screen. The trichomes fall through, this is kif. The kif is then pressed to blocks and often warmed a bit. Now it is hash.
This is how most traditional hash is made, especially in North Africa and the Middle East.

ah all this talk of hash and i'm smokeless now for 3 weeks visiting relatives in germany and don't have a connection here. should really just catch the train up to the 'dam. doubt id make it back for christmas tho
