"half-way" through first grow

Here is the first of seven remaining cakes to make it into my humidifier (I lost five to contamination). So far, things seem to be going well! Ill post more pictures as things develop.

Wow, that myc is nice and thick! I bet that cake will yield some nice fruits! Did you leave them in jar extra long after "full colonization" to get it that thick?
Very nice.

sorry, should've posted some more info.... i used PFTEK, "incubated" in an unused bathroom for about 25days at 69F. My humidifier is one of my wife's x-mas decoration boxes with some modifications!
It sucks to have lost five, but I don't think they would have all fit inside my box anyway (I didn't design the drip guard properly).

No, I removed it out from under the sink as soon as the jar was fully colonized (I was running low on patience). I'm going to leave some of the other jars under there for a bit longer and see if I get any better results.

Wow 25 days, that's why they contamed right there. The sooner they colonize, the less likely contams will set in on you. But yea, that one looks awesome, should result in some healthy fruitation
Setup up a TiT incubator, very simply, very effective. Should cut your colonization times in half, at least.

Yeah...I inoculated my two B+ jars about...end of October, and they're still only about 80-95% colonized....slow going.

Actually, I lost most of them right at the beginning. I haven't lost a jar for 12 days. I think my long colonization time was due to the fact that my house is usually between 65F and 69F.... Another think I forgot to mention, Im using B+ strain.
good luck!

Drip guards are obsolete. Do a search on the forum search engine for a Shotgun terrarium. That is what you want for cakes.

You can get decent results just putting you cakes in a FC ......
Here is a photo of little 1/2 pint cakes in an old style (PF Tek) FC.

I would 'dunk and roll' (if you are not spawning to bulk substrate and casing) and use the perlite humidified shotgun FC as mentioned above ..... then mist and fan .... mist and fan .....
Have fun. Good luck

Yeah you can get decent results like that, i have tried un rolled and rolled, both produced good results but rolling gave better pinning.
If you are using an automated humidity and FAE setup then i would imagine that just straight cakes should perform really well.
With perlite, rolling in verm helps provide extra moisture where its needed.

Be sure to keep your humidity as near 100% as you can get it. That's hard to do with humidifiers. I'd suggest perlite humidification, and save your humidifier for when you build a mini-greenhouse. RR

well it's really up to you. But if you had Dunked and Rolled and Your RH is right and you've got enough FAE I bet they would have pinned a little earlier.
No worries though, they'll pin either way! I might do a dunk and roll at least after the first flush. I dunk between my cake flushes as I know others do too with good results.

Well, its been 20 days since I put the first cake in the FC, and shorter durations for the remaining seven. They look very ready! I had a feeling my humidity was too low, so two days ago, in addition to my bubbler, I put in 3 inches of rinsed perlite. Hopefully, this moves things along!

Not from what I've read, but I think my humidity wasn't nearly high enough and I didn't do enough FAE.....

Well, I finally got some pins!!! I almost didn't notice them because they are coming out of the "bottom" of the cake. Should I have flipped the cakes "right side" up after birthing them? Sorry for the crappy pictures, I'll take more when they are a bit larger. I think the perlite w/ the bubbler finally got my humidity where it needed to be.......
