I have been thinking about ordering a spore print from a site, but i was thinking i should try to grow some random mushroom before i start breaking any laws, do most mushrooms have the same way of growing? It would just be one that grows approximately to the same size as a cube. thank you.

It really depends on where the mushrooms are native from and what they grow on. Different mushrooms have different temperatures and substrates.Other than that, they grow pretty similarly. This site has a lot of hobbyists who grow various edibles, and from what I gather from the Let's Grow Mushrooms video RogerRabbit made(A member of our forums), you can use the same PF Tek to grow shitakes and some other edible. It shouldn't really be a big issue, just use the search and gather any information pertinent to whatever you're growing. And if you're that cautious, you're probably going to successfully grow mushrooms. What's the difference between breaking a law learning to grow mushrooms, or breaking a law once you've learned?

You can do a lot of different types of mushrooms with generally the same procedures, maybe some different ingredients (like the addition of wood for some species). It would be just as easy to just start growing cubensis mushrooms for your first try but to each his own.

It also depends where you live... in Canada ofr example, mushroom cultivation and possession of wet shrooms is legal, it is not until they are dried that it becomes an arrestable offense, being that they are grown for drug related purposes.

Substrates will vary slightly as will temperature and humidity parameter.
In the cultivation section of the main site you will find all the parameters for some of the more commonly grown edibles.
