I hate when someone refers to themselves in the third person. You really have to be some kind of pretentious, egotistical, or just downright stupid asshole to do that. Its just on my mind because some idiot did it today when he was talking to me. I wanted to punch his third person in the fucking mouth!!
ToTheSummit hates when people refer to themselves in the third person. Yes, he really does!

I guess I would find it annoying in real life, but when you think about it, it's not really any more egotistical than saying "I"

How do you respond when people refer to you in the third-person?

I don't, because I assume they are not addressing me directly.

drkrobotnik does it over the internet (like on facebook status where it says your name then 'is' forces one to talk in third person), but he does not do it in real life. he would probably punch the kid too.

I disagree. 'You', 'me', 'I' and 'we' are all perfectly acceptable pronouns to refer to the participating parties when engaged in a conversation. Its called language.

We did that in sixth grade because we thought it was funny. I don't think it's egotistical. Just gay.

Yeah man, those pronouns dont really bring any great emphasis to the subject. using your own name in third person excludes everybody else except you, the egoist.

I see what you're saying.. but I think it's just a quirk of ours that we prefer to say "I" because it seems more direct or honest than speaking in the 3rd person, but I'm not sure that it is.

-------------------- “Strengthened by contemplation and study, I will not fear my passions like a coward. My body I will give to pleasures, to diversions that I’ve dreamed of, to the most daring erotic desires, to the lustful impulses of my blood, without any fear at all, for whenever I will— and I will have the will, strengthened as I’ll be with contemplation and study— at the crucial moments I’ll recover my spirit as was before: ascetic.”
