Using pre-cooked brown rice?

Hey I was wondering if using pre-cooked brown rice instead of regular brown rice in my substrate is acceptable? I'm not seeing any mycelium grow in my jars for the past week or so, and I dont know if the spores are feeding off it. It is organic, btw.

Even if you mix pre-cooked BR you'll still need to sterilze the cake anyway.
What TEK are you flowing, what spores, what mix, temp, etc...

yes it should work considering i cooked some brown rice (whole) and added it to jars and they are colonizing as we speak. i used LC on the other hand and it took 2 days to see growth. what is your substrate mix consisting of?

organic has nothing to do with cultivation. Its just a hippy, go green sort of thing.

Unless the grains you use contain fungicides. Using organic is an assurance that there will be no fungicides.

actually it does. most inorganic products contain fungicides which i would assume you wouldn't want when growing fungus but i see what your getting at... damn hippies j/k.

show me one brand of brown rice that has fungicides in it that will hamper the growth of mushroom mycelium

i haven't personally gone out treking for non-organic grown rice, but many veterans told me about the fungicides (RR included) and with their experience i would be a fool to not take their advice and share it. although all of the fungicides are present in very minute quantities that will not greatly effect your grow, it's not worth taking chances i would say. almost all inorganic rice farming companies use fungicides and pesticides... just Google search it.

I don't mean to say that non-organic contains fungicides, but you can never be 100% sure either that you got that batch that was sprayed too late (once in a while cases do make it to the papers about people poisoned by fungicides or pesticides in grains) . You might be 99.9% sure, especially in countries like the U.S. or Western Europe where quality controls on food are strict, but never 100%.
With organic you are guaranteed to be pesticide free.
But then again, many people just use non organic flour as it is cheaper and it works just as well.

I'm using the PF Tek, and i'm growing it in a 1 pint jar: 1 1/3 cup vermiculite, 1/2 cup brown rice, and 1/2 cup water. I'm using a Cambodian strain from spores101, and keeping the temperature between 70 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit. The reason I mentioned it was organic was because I remember reading somewhere was that non organic brown rice has preservatives added to it which stop growth of bacteria, and prevent the spores to grow.

Edit, didn't see the 1 in front of the 1/3
Too much verm, your mix will be a tad dry
The proportions should be 2 parts verm, 1 part brf one part water

are you planning on using cooked whole grain brown rice or flour? if you are using whole grain and you are planning to spawn to bulk OR case, then you can just load up the jars with 100% brown rice (cooked) and give it a 1/2 to 1 inch of dry verm on top like the regular PF tek calls for. verm should only be used if you are going to fruit the cakes as is. the reason is because the verm is used to hold moisture to feed the cakes.
also the more brown rice you have in the mixture the more nutrients which will result in more or larger fruits.
cheers,
bzl

I wish I had known that beforehand, because I will most likely be casing, unless it's not recommended for a first time grower. But I started out with regular brown rice and just blended it to a powdery form. Can I still have a successful harvest if I case it the way it is (the vermiculite mixed with the rice)? When you say cooked, do you mean I should cook the brown rice myself, or just say precooked on the box?

Just dunk and roll cakes, there is no point in casing them on their own http://www.shroomery.org/9735/Should-I-crumble-and-case-my-cakes
