Your vote for America's most retarded politician ever

Curious as to think who you guys judge as the worst person ever in American politics.
My vote? Marion muthafuckin Barry. Not just for obvious bitch-set-me-up reasons. Let a crackhead smoke some crack, I say, especially while mayor.
But just take a look at these quotes:
“If you take out the killings, Washington actually has a very very low crime rate.”
“The laws in this city are clearly racist. All laws are racist. The law of gravity is racist.”
“I am making this trip to Africa because Washington is an international city, just like Tokyo, Nigeria or Israel. As mayor, I am an international symbol. Can you deny that to Africa?”

Can't go wrong with George W Bush. With a tracklist from ruining the American economy, illegally invading two, count em' two countries - partially and currently at the same time, furthering the progression of global warming and carbon emissions to their worst point ever, endorsing torture, passing the "Patriot" act - as well as many other acts limiting basic rights, and generally spitting on the Constitution and tarnishing America's reputation

I knew Bush was coming up
By TWO you mean Afghanistan AND Iraq?
I don't think so many people were THAT against going into Afghanistan. Course... botching it by not sending enough troops at the start was pretty dumb.

Yeah, I mean Afghanistan. It's such a grand fuck-up there but no one even cares because all eyes are on Iraq. Here's my ultra super conspiracy theory: 19 clones of George Bush disguised themselves as terrorists, hijacked holographic planes and pretended to fly them into various targets. While this happened, huge space lasers fired upon the targets, destroying them. Then we invaded Afghanistan, supposedly looking for Osama Bin Laden which is really just an anogram for Main Blade: an OS, which is the computer that controls the united states. So, hoping to exploit Afghanistan's rich deposits of oil, uranium, and kryptonite, the united states (i.e. a computer) invades Afghanistan. Then, while using super clone-soldiers to transform the entire country into a mining operation that is disguised by a hologram, the computer invaded Iraq to distract the world. Saddam Hussein (really a code, disregard duplicate letters and the name is revealed as Saam Huein, still make no sense? well Saam Huein is a Korean geneticist who origenally developed the cloning process), was purportedly captured and executed. This is because the Saddam Hussein we knew was really a prototype clone, why do you think he had so many doubles? So that's where we stand today.
If you read the above then you're as bored as I am

I understand fully. Sleep deprivation makes me write funny things.
Back on topic though, I really do think Bush is the worst, but you get kinda spoiled when the only other president you can remember is Clinton. I actually had a dream the other night that I met Clinton again and he told me he wished he could run for president again. Also Hillary was next to him and we were both chatting about how she shouldn't run.

Which is it? Most retarded or worst? There is certainly a correlation between the two, but I don't necessarily think the worst ones are the most retarded. Herbert Hoover had the highest IQ of any president with the possible exception of Thomas Jefferson, but look how his presidency turned out. Bush certainly has the strongest combination of the two, but I don't necessarily think he's the worst. I put Andrew Jackson up there for his genocidal policies. I agree with Seuss's assessment about Joe McCarthy. But I think my top choice in terms of having the worst long-term negative impact would be Harry J Anslinger.

Jimmy Carter ( i was only a kid)
but I REMEMBER...
Oil Shortage and gas lines
Recession
high unemployment
high Inflation
home mortgages at 16 percent,
Sold out the Shah of Iran to the radical muslims,
I remember his answer to the Soviet Union invading Afghanistan was to boycott the Olympics in Moscow.....
I remember that my dad was getting investment loans at a lower interest rate from the Mafia!
Fuck you Jimmy.

YES! I was hoping someone would mention him. First name that came to my mind. Here are some of his quotes.
"There are 100,000 total marijuana smokers in the US, and most are Negroes, Hispanics, Filipinos, and entertainers. Their Satanic music, jazz, and swing, result from marijuana use. This marijuana causes white women to seek sexual relations with Negroes, entertainers, and any others."
"...the primary reason to outlaw marijuana is its effect on the degenerate races."
"Marijuana is an addictive drug which produces in its users insanity, criminality, and death."
"Reefer makes darkies think they're as good as white men."
"Marihuana leads to pacifism and communist brainwashing"
"You smoke a joint and you're likely to kill your brother."
"Marijuana is the most violence-causing drug in the history of mankind."

I have been mulling this over for awhile. McCarthy is a pretty good pick. He was an idiot, a drunk, and a failure of a politician until he got involved in HUAC and found a way of making a name for himself. By pretty much acting like the Gestapo. He brought nothing to the table, only persecuted others.
Michael D. Brown is also a fascinating study in what seems to be a lifetime of half-assed mismanagement.

Hands down Vice President, "Five Deferment Dick" Cheney as he is known in the military. This "man" (I'm being generous here) richly deserves his place in the Dumbass Hall of Fame.
First ballot.
Second would be GWB. Third prize goes to McCarthy and fourth goes to Jimmy Carter just so the democrats don't feel left out.
Dick (Yes he is) Cheney grabs the prize because, unlike Bush, he should know better. Everything he did, he did consciously. That doesn't excuse Bush, it just puts more of a burden on Cheney.
Mr. Cheney is basically your good old fashioned neighborhood alcoholic sociopath. He is the type of person who actually gets his thrills from getting hammered while shooting small defenseless living creatures in cages. Very sporting, Dick.
And starting un-needed wars using distorted and manipulated intelligence.
Why are Bush/Cheney at the top?
Because I rate my picks based upon how many lives they have destroyed. These bums have ruined or ended the lives of so many human beings that they are hands down America's most retarded politicians ever. If they ever have a reality show so-named they will win it easily.
Their bone-headed war in Iraq, alienating our traditional allies while multiplying our enemies, increasing our deficit while decreasing our dollar and reputation, and disrupting and ending the lives of countless human beings..the list goes on and on!
And also for setting the stage for the cherry on the Bush sundae- the looming Bush recession of 2008- his parting gift to America! That final room-clearing smell which will linger. The gift that keeps on giving!
Merry Christmas everyone!

Bob Taft, the prior R governor from Ohio is a nice one.
A few stats,
Promised to protect the rights of gun owners, then removed the "plain sight" provision from the concealed carry bill that was to later-override his veto for the first time in 30 years. Claimed he had to veto it cuz the cops didn't like it.
Gave 50 million in state money to a donor to Taft's campaign to invest for the state. About half goes into coins (this guy actually bought rare coins with the state's money and kept them himself at his buisness). Few years pass, and seven million dollars worth of the coins are unable to be found, no they didn't depreciate, they physically disapear while in possesion of the donor. In all around 12 million is stolen. Taft claims to know nothing about nothing, despite evidence to the contrary. http://www.ohiocitizen.org/moneypolitics/2006/noe_bwc.htm
Accepts around five-thousand dollars in illegal gifts, doesn't report them, and becomes the first governor in the state's history to be charged with crimes while in office. Is convicted, fined by a municipal court judge, ordered to apologize to Ohio citizens, and is censured by the Supreme Court of the state (he's a lawyer).
Rated worst governor in the country by the Cato institute- which would seem an unusual occurance for a Republican, for reasons that are generally covered here (taxes, spending, bullshit): http://cincinnati.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/stories/2005/02/28/daily45.html
Claims a wopping 6.5% approval rating by some estimates. http://www.toledoblade.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20051129/NEWS09/511290414/-1/NEWS
Becomes possibly the lowest-rated politician in the history of the United States
"In the wake of convictions for the ethics violations (see criminal conviction section below), Governor Taft's approval rating bottomed out at 6.5%, according to a late November 2005 poll by Zogby, giving him quite possibly the lowest polled approval rating ever by a United States politician.[2] A SurveyUSA poll that same month gave Taft a rating of 18%. A late-2005 article in Time Magazine named him as one of the three worst governors in the country.[3]" See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bob_Taft

Bob Barr is the first that comes to mind. For you yunguns' Bob Barr was a hardcore pro-life Republican (congressmen I think, maybe senate). Bob Barr was exposed during the Clinton impeachment shit by Larry Flint for cheating on his wife, getting the chick pregnant, and forcing her to get an abortion which he paid for. As far as "Your vote for America's most retarded politician ever". Well, get a current list of every member of the senate and congress and figure about 90-95 percent fall into the retard category with a few exceptions. Oh BUSH too; not saying Gore or Kerry would have been any less retarded.

But he later became an outspoken opponent of the Patriot Act, and was one of the few who refused to sign it when it was rushed through congress after 9/11. Gotta give him some credit.

Iraq was a choice. And a dumb one at that.

War with Japan was not an option. War with Germany, however, was completely optional.
That takes us further astray from the thread topic, though.

As a practical matter, no. Germany declared war on the U.S. four days after Pearl Harbor. War with Germany was inevitable at that point.
So Syle, are you going to offer your own response to the topic in question or just take pot shots at the answers of others who participated?

So what? There was no need to respond to what was in reality a laughably hollow declaration of war -- Germany hadn't the foggiest hope of landing on American soil anything other than maybe a small raiding party or two from a couple of U-boats. Nazi Germany in late 1941 was less of a threat to America than was Osama bin Laden in 1998, when he declared war on America.
There were many, MANY people in the United States who at the time argued in favor of ignoring the European theater entirely and instead throwing all resources against the Japanese. Perhaps these people were right -- there is no doubt whatsoever that fighting the war on two fronts led to increased duration of the war on Japan. If all of America's military might had been thrown against the Japanese, and Hitler left to the USSR, both would have been defeated with far fewer American casualties.
Quote:

Far from it. See above.
However, this has little to do with the thread topic, unless one is arguing Roosevelt was America's most retarded president for going to war against Germany. I'm not arguing that. Are you?

This is totally off topic to the thread, BrAiN.
This business of the wisdom of America's going after Hitler in Europe has been discussed in great detail over the years in various threads. I say wisdom rather than necessity because clearly there was no necessity (at least from a self defense point of view) for the US to do anything but -- at most -- beef up its coastal anti-submarine defenses.
If you really have an interest in continuing this tangent, why not review one of the older threads and add your thoughts to it? Here's one you might want to start with --

or maybe this one --

You tell everyone else they're OFF TOPIC and to stop their disucssion, only AFTER you've thrown your opinion in, to get the last word on something.
I see THREE posts from you here and not a single one having anything to do with the topic at hand.
.. the pot calling the kettle black >:P
But to get back ON topic... I wouldn't call Roosevelt a bad politician even IF the war with Germany were unneccessary. I mean hell.. they delcared war on US.

We all go off topic from time to time, myself included. At least this time, I realized that my continuing to participate in this whole World War II side chain is off topic, and would take it even further off topic if continued, so I took it upon myself to offer a way to continue this tangent without derailing the thread further.
If you really are interested in pursuing the WW II angle further, what does it matter if it is in this thread or in another?
I'm used to people disagreeing with me -- there's maybe half a dozen regular posters here who agree with me, and even they don't agree with me about everything. So no, I'm not shutting down debate with someone who disagrees with me, I'm doing everything in my power to give those who disagree with me the proper place to continue the discussion (use one of the links I provided, or start a new thread if you prefer -- doesn't matter to me) while showing some respect to the originator of THIS thread.
If you see that as some sort of nefarious form of manipulation... well... nothing I can do about what goes on inside your head, I guess.

I appreciate your tact.
What's funny... the last two times you complained about me being off topic (this one included) were threads that *I* started.
Hah!
I think 80% of the threads here pretty much get derailed so I don't even try to fight it.
Everything ends up somehow turning into one of two topics:
1) YAY RON PAUL
2) BOOOO GEORGE BUSH. AMERICA SUCKS. CAPITALISM SUCKS. OK LET ME GO OUT AND BUY SOME SHOES NOW.
At least this one was kept interesting and didn't fall into either two

Well, to get back on-topic, the most retarded US politician ever, IMO, is Dan Quayle.

I never understood why there was such a furor over that incident. The word was spelled both ways until fairly recently. I have seen both versions and have never been greatly surprised to see either used. Also the plural of 'potato' is 'potatoes'.
Quayle did have a tendency to say stupid things though and I think the spuds incident was a media-friendly story that reached critical mass and the talk shows had a field day with jokes about it.
Personally, I dislike Quayle more for his politics and family values BS (which he helped popularize) than his verbal gaffes.

Because he had cue cards in his hand with the correct spelling for all the words and he still mis-corrected the student's spelling.

From what I understand, the flash card he was given by the school had the spelling variant which he gave.
The word was commonly spelled "potatoe" up until recently and the plural of 'potato' is 'potatoes' so it was certainly an understandable mistake to anyone who doesn't wish to make mischief that is. But the media couldn't resist.
It was certainly an awkward moment, but nothing to make such a big deal about. I mean they went on for weeks about that.
I think it just crystallized in people's minds all the other gaffes he had made and the media needed a story. The talk shows needed a topic.
They should have focused on his other gaffes. There were plenty to choose from that's for sure!
