colonize manure with rice cake?

I understand that grain is typically used to colonize a manure/straw mix, but I have a terrible time with getting grain to colonize and have great success with rice cakes. Is is possible or does anyone have experience using a rice cake to colonize a manure tray? It is pre pasteurized, I figured just put the cake(s) in the middle of the tray and pour in the manure over top. Or better yet, if I have a bag of pre pasteurized manure/straw mix, can that be inoculated and colonized by itself?

Useing brf cakes to spawn is done by breaking up the cakes in a bag to the size peas or nickels depending on the tek. Then mix with the bulk. Ive only done this to colonize grain jars. It worked fine for me.

Yes, you can use a PF-style cake to spawn to a bulk substrate. If your manure is already pasteurized and at the right moisture content, you just need to crumble the cake into your manure, and mix well.
It is possible to inoculate manure and straw and colonize it directly, usually in bags, but you will have more consistent results spawning to it.

I do it all the time. It's a great way to make bulk grows without having to use a PC

You guys sound experienced. maybe i should try to switch to a manure type casing. I made 4 jars about 8 weeks ago. it took them a long time to turn white. about six weeks for the slowest ones. then i soaked them in water for 24hrs and rolled them in fine verm. and placed them in a plastic tub on perilite. Spray em regularly but still no pins. they are very fluffy. also, i broke 2 of them up into a bowl full of verm a few weeks ago, still nothing. they seem to be growing more fluffy but no pins. should i try to put the colonized cakes into a grow med? I dunno? I am starting to loose hope.

Two weeks from full surface colonization to pinning isn't unusual. If you want to, put a spoonful of wet verm on the top of the cakes and keep it misted to give the cakes that extra humidity boost. if in a week you haven't seen anything, ask again.

grains are better to use to spawn with then a cake. I seen a tek one guy did where he put his cake in a blender with some water and then poured that on some bulk looked like a good idea if it was a new blender.
