Whats up guys....first post and im excited to stop lurking and start posting...also like to say i appreciate what you guys do here, it gives a person all the valuable information a person needs at no cost:)
my question is about jars......im having trouble finding jars, and i would like to know if the jars found at wallmart will hold up to sterilization? They are simple wide mouths with a red rubber type lid....i know they are air and water tight so using them shouldnt be a problem with keeping out contams but will i run into problems when im sterilizing with melting or the tape not sticking or seal being broken??
thanks alot

Well it's hard to say without seeing them. The lids aren't made entirely out of rubber are they? You mean they have a red rubber ring that goes over the mouth of the jar right? If they're glass canning jars then they're made to withstand being boiled and pressure cooked. I think you're probably good to go.

Yeah, you're probably good to go. Are they Kerr or Ball? Those are made to withstand the sort of heat and pressure we're talking about.

If they're labeled as "canning jars" you're good to go.

the jars are glass with a poly type plastic lid.....the intructions say they can be used in the oven so im gunna assume they can handle the heat.....i think theyr acceptable
i got six jars and each jar holds two cups....they are relatively fat and short....i will let you guys know how it goes....this is my first time cultivating mushrooms and im excited to see my results....ive read more on this than i do for most of my college classes so im pretty confident:)wish me luck
thanks--
