does mycelium have a life span?
    #774000 -

ok whould this work.
can you get a cake that allready had a flush or two and get 4 cups of dung, 2 cups or brf, 3 cups of vermiculite, and proper proportions of water. Mix the mixture and add the cake that allready had a couple flushes. Whould the cake colinize the mixture. And could you use that mixture for a casing. Would this produce mushrooms or would it just fail.

I had some GC that were so old I couldn't remember their birthday. I was only getting 1 here, 1 there, and some weren't producing anything. I busted them all up, put down some perlite, then vermiculite. After that I put the busted cakes all across and covered it with a peat/cow dung mix. It didn't take long for things to come back to life! Can't believe how long these things are lasting!

i believe i read RR saying that cakes harbor contams once they have been out and fruiting.

also, one it has fruited, i've read that it takes a lot of energy for the mycelium to switch back to a vegetative(colonizing) state.

slow colonizing + contams = likely to fail
