depends where you are. in a lot of places in europe its polite to peck on the cheek (or even both)

it is perfectly acceptable to kiss upon arrival and departure.
this is so common in my culture it surprise me that you must ask the question haha,
there is a huge difference between sexual kissing and the greeting/farewell kissing.

^ yeah, exactly, I'm from the Netherlands and almost all my friends do it, it's more like its impolite NOT to kiss a girl on the cheek when you leave than to do. Most of the time we do 3 though. One time, I kissed someones mother once on her cheek when I left on the first day we met, and it was really awkward lol..
So I think 1 kiss on the cheek is OK and maybe even mandatory for close friends, and three times is pretty normal too.
