I want a blade server?

I would like to get some kind of blade center and fill it with quad core xeons. the thing is I only know about home pc's not sever hardware. I either want to host several websites and games with this or just make a supercomputer, what's the difference in set up
Can some please tell me what I want. I want some kind of blade center that can run with only one blade at first but eventually be full.I would like it to hold 5-10 blades. beyond that I have no idea
Can some put this all is perspective for me what is the cost to run a blade sever from start up to monthly maintains. Can also someone help me compile a hardware list?

Do you have around $10,000 to $25,000 to blow on hardware?

Yes, I figured that blade was the way to go. 8 workstation style sever take up way more room than one blade center.
$10,000-$25,000 Maybe fully loaded with the best of every thing and brand new. I priced one online with every bell and whistle for $13,000
Many people spend 2-4,000 on gaming pc's I want just a blade center and one blade.
I just don't know if it could run with only one blade. Does any one know for sure?
I figure the blade center is $1500-$3000 and the blades are $1000-$5000, sound about right.

Yes, but it is a large investment up front for only a single blade. Besides, the blades don't magically merge into a single computer somehow. This really isn't the way to go for a gaming machine. You would be much better off spending money on a dual/quad processor motherboard that supports quad core processors.

I don't want a gaming comp. I want a server. I guess you could say this is the first step to getting business started, it may sound crazy to start like this but I've seen more ridicules things succeed.
All I know is I want alot of high power computers in a small space. if some has a better solution let me know.
I am looking into making a mini-blade center with some Mini Itx's

Consumer hardware is stupid cheap these days. What exactly are you trying to do that a current "gaming comp" cannot handle?
Just curious, because most gaming PC's these days make a typical colocated server look like a child's toy.

Really? They can do 64GB of RAM and get 12.8GB/s out of it?

OP: Blades are cool, but they're really only cool if you plan on stacking out the blade enclosure. Otherwise you've got shitloads of bandwidth across the backplane you're wasting. Starting with PC hardware in 2U cases might be a better option.

But if you really want to know, check this link:
http://h30099.www3.hp.com/configurator/catalog-isswce.asp
You can build a HP blade setup from there and I think it'll even give you pricing. The BL20 series should be getting cheap on the used market by now.

I like the U2 cases they look alot cheaper than a blade center. What would the best processor for a Game sever I would like to run several games at 1000fps 100tick. Cs CSS WoW DoD shit like that.

Check around and see what cpu/chipset/os combo runs your games best. Most any board should fit into a 2U case, watch out for PCI risers limiting the number of cards. Build it all up from scratch, way cheaper than buying pre-built.

OP:
GET SOME WEBSITES RUNNING on your PC hardware FIRST. When you start maxing out the capability of your PC(s), then think about server hardware.
VERY FEW websites have large enough applications that demand blade type performance - A standalone Dell dual- or quad-core system would work just fine. If you invest in a blade setup without having websites to run on it, the whole backplane will probably be obsolete before you get the sites built to run on it!
Also, where are you going to get the bandwidth? Going to lease a $5,000/mo connection?

Im with the last poster here. There is absolutely no need for that kind of computing power when it comes to hosting games. You want a fast computer, yes...but bandwidth will be your major cost, and limiting factor IMO.

I havent priced blade centers but I have used them a few times for some school projects. They are definately cool but I think whoever said they cost 10,000 to 25,000 is correct. Compared to other servers I have used the hardware and software is on the higher end.

Yeah I'm starting to lean to useing a rack mount sever with Either U2 or U3's I really would like to build it myself.
