Early Pinning on Shiitake Block
    #7738948 - 12/10/07 12:55 AM (16 years, 1 month ago)

Hi this is my first time to grow shiitake mushrooms and to grow out of spawn bags.

Right now, it looks like hyphal knots are forming, but the blocks are nto fully colonized. they have been incubating in my room, but the temperature isn't constant. Since it's winter here in texas, we turn off the A/C every now and then, but the temperature stays around 71-77 degrees Fahrenheit. The blocks are exposed to a small amount of light, and for air exchange I cut an aluminum pipe and stuffed it with polyfill.

I'm not sure if it's the temperature, air exchange, or the amount of light that i'm using.

I'm pretty sure these are hyphal knots, but is this normal? should i be seeing knots form this early before full colonization?

im sure thats just the mycellium. im growing a patch and when fully colonized it looked like it had popcorn like stuff all over. im pretty sure the pins start inside and then grow out of the surface

Correct. They'll bubble up later, then begin fruiting after a good cold shock and overnight soak. You need to just allow them to fully colonize. It looks normal so far.
