Choco-Mushrooms and a Dog

so my friend is at his grandparents' house for the weekend and they have this dog... anyway he left some chocomushrooms lying around while he went to the shower and came back to the sight of the dog finishing them off. he says it's an hour in and the dog can't walk...
anyway, do you think the dog might need immediate medical care or does it just have to ride it out like the rest of us...?

depends on how much it was and how big the dog is really. your friend should have induced vomiting right after he caught the dog finishing them off.

yeah it was a couple of 8ths the dog ate, he's taking him to the vet now just to play it safe. man what a cruddy situation. he lost mushrooms and a dog got sick. and to answer the dog size it's a golden retriever

that is extremely irresponsible of your friend, leaving out chocolate mushrooms KNOWING full well that there is a dog around. it's already been an hour, i doubt there is much they can do except pump him full of valium and hope for the best. as far as your friend losing his mushrooms, who fucking cares? i'm sorry, but waiting and HOUR to see if the dog is going to be okay after eating "a couple 8ths", that's just plain fucking wrong. think of how your average human reacts to eating an eighth of mushrooms, now picture a dog that is half the size of a human.
i have no sympathy for your friend, but i feel extremely sorry for the dog.

Leaving chocolate out near a dog is absolutely retarded, LET ALONE mushroom chocolates! I hope the dog is fine, and I hope your friend learns his lesson!

Yeah I'd be more worried about the effects of the chocolate than the mushies.

it depends on how much chocolate, what type of chocolate, and the size/weight of the dog. small amounts of milk chocolate or even semi-sweet chocolate for a large sized dog will not prove lethal. it's the smaller dogs you gotta worry about, as it takes much much less to prove harmful.
milk chocolate (which i'm guessing is what type it was in this case) is the least lethal. if it's a decent sized golden retriever that we're talking about s/he'll probably be fine. if it were dark (semi-sweet) chocolate, it would be more of a problem, and if it were baker's chocolate you would want to rush him/her to the vet as quickly as possible. however, the first thing you would want to do, regardless of what type of chocolate and the size of the animal, would be to induce vomiting by administering (pouring down the animal's throat) a teaspoon of table salt. i say table salt because not everyone has Ipecac on hand, but table salt will produce the same effects.
