i have seen it take as long as 7 days on some of my jars, usually if the substrate is too wet.

the best way to find the answer to questions like that is to use the 'search posts' feature up by the top there. 99.9% of my questions get answered that way. and people around here get pissed when kids ask the same questions over and over again. no offense to you, just a suggestion for the future.

The only problem with using the search is so many people say one thing works and then others say it doesnt. Its hard to get a good idea with certain question.

If you have a dry verm barrier, you should take the foil off, as the verm barrier will protect the cake from contams and the foil hinders gas exchange.
If you want to, you can cover the holes with micropore tame.
In any case, take the foil off, and also the tape.

Hi,
I've had what I think is a good look around and cant find an answer.
Can anyone advise me of the following.
I have some active woodchip substrate which was harvested from a large bed. I can see mycelium within it.
I also have some spores from the harvested fungi.
If I drop these spores onto the existing substrate I would assume this would emulate what would happen naturally.
Can anyone post me a link or provide info on whether this is a viable techinque as all the growing info seems to focus on cakes and terrariums etc.
Thanks

Yeah, foil off.
I saw a poster on here compared a large number of covered jars to uncovered with the same batch of substrate/spores and every single uncovered jar colonized faster.
dry verm layer and uncover.

Why wouldn't you create your own thread to ask this question instead of bumping a year old thread?
