No not at all. Psilocybin is in mushrooms which gets metabolized into psilocin. Psilocin is structurally similar to serotonin. Psilocin crosses the blood-brain barrier and acts as a 5-HT2a receptor agonist causing the psychedelic effects. Psilocin is completely harmless physically. You can not overdose on mushrooms.

Mushrooms could still be considered a high though, but it's much more than just a high to the majority of people who use them.

It raises the question though, namely why do the mushrooms produce psilocybin? What evolutionary advantage does it bring?
Also, what is the definition of a "poison" to you? There are many chemicals which in certain amounts help us live, while in other amounts can cause toxicity or even death.

The trip is fun to us, because we understand it, and realize what is happening. However, if an animal came by picking at the mushroom and then started hallucinating like crazy, then it would know to never ingest it again.

Actually, I read a post by somebody who said that every year, P. Cubensis grow naturally in their yard. And every year, the cat eats them.

There is a book that talks about how some animals seek out the natural highs such as mushrooms. I dont know what its called, but if I look for a bit I should be able to find it. I think ive seen a thread about it too.

I haven't the foggiest who posted that nor in what forum. I just remember that whichever forum it was, it was a respected community member. The exact place the shrooms grew, I don't remember either, just that it was on some land they own and that their cat would eat them.
