Vista is a billion dollar skin that makes your computer slow.

I truly hate Vista office, with all my heart and soul. If its not broke don't fucking fix it, do they not learn this when coding a big fat micro$oft logo button?

 Agreed.
There was nothing wrong with windows XP.  Yet Microsoft went ahead and "de-evolved" to a shittier OS...
For what reason?? Beats me.  Maybe they made more money doing it this way? Hmmm...

But yeah, if you walk into a computer retailer and buy a computer with a certain OS installed as the default operating system... then yes, i feel you as the consumer should have every right to assume that it's GOING TO FUCKING WORK :crazy2: LOL

So let's say tomorrow we start paving the roads with a new kind of asphault that ordinary tires will not drive on. Are you saying it's not the pavers' faults, but the car manufacturers' ? Shouldn't the manufacturers even have any say in the new paving (not in if Microsoft is the paver)

Here you can see the problem with Microsoft's share of control of things. They force the rest of the industry into a tight spot and many companies will ultimately go under probably as a result of Vista.

Isn't it really both their faults?

Thats a bad comparison. Its like if a new car was introduced with new tires that didnt work on current asphault. Its the buyers fault, not the makers.

What dont you like about Vista? Most of the issues have been fixed with hotfixes and new drivers. I think most people hate vista because its the cool thing to do so you sound like you know what you are talking about.

Turn of UAC and the annoying security boxes stop popping up, get new drivers, and get all the updates from Microsoft. Most problems are solved that way.

Absolutely. Most people complaining about Vista are doing so nowadays because they keep hearing from other people how "shitty" Vista is. I'll admit its not perfect but its not nearly as bad as people make it out to be. Another large group of people who run Vista complain "it makes my computer run so slow". Chances are you just have a shitty computer and shouldn't be upgrading OS's if you aren't prepared to upgrade the hardware as well.

AaronEvil and I have been through this... I respect his opinion, but you are going to have to do better than that if you want to convince me. Vista being "good or not" is based almost completely upon what you are trying to do with it (ignoring the hardware aspect of the issue).

Although I have a lot of gripes about Vista, the big one (for me) is that it is "crippleware". Microsoft jumped in bed with the DRM/DMCA/RIAA/MPAA pricks and cripple my very expensive hardware to prevent me from potentially violating some copyright. Imagine buying a Xerox copier and finding that it will only copy handwritten text as type written text is probably copyrighted.

I'll admit I'm no expert when it comes to computers. But I run a lot of pirated software, and I haven't experienced any such problems with my computer preventing me from running things due to the DMCA/Copyright stuff. Every security setting can be turned off from what I've seen, and when it is Vista acts pretty much the same as XP.

Furthermore, much of the copyright stuff is embedded in the software so blaming it only on the OS is unfair.

Heres the way I see it: Apple is gaining market share on Microsoft, so Microsoft released an OS that attempts to be more "pretty" with all those little gadgets and the like that Mac OS's have. Queue the higher system requirements. At the same time as this is Microsoft attempting to become a global standard for computing, but how could a company implement a global standard unless it had powerful companies backing it and willing to use it. This could somewhat explain the strong copyright infringement policy that Vista has taken.

I'm not trying to sit here and tell you that Vista is the best OS out there, but its certainly not the worst. It takes a bit of configuring and getting used to, and many people would rather stick to the old rather than the headache of dealing with the new. But if you get a new computer with Vista already installed, barring the fact that it runs slow due to a bad computer (and in all reality who is going to buy a brand new computer these days that can't run Vista. I mean it does have "high sys reqs" but these are high for freakin 2003), rather than simply ordering a copy of XP online or switching to another OS you could simply take the time to learn how to make Vista do what you want. Its not easy, but neither is shelling out the extra cash to buy a copy of XP.

Try to listen to a DVD through a digital audio port.

> Furthermore, much of the copyright stuff is embedded in the software so blaming it only on the OS is unfair.

Not in this case. Vista cripples the hardware to prevent potential copyright violations. It disables digital outputs, it downgrades video in many cases, etc.

regardless of all this vista crap, I really hate those apple commercials where the pc guy is trying to market windows and the 'chill' apple guy is  baffled by his marketing strategies.

Apple will always be crap because not enough programs are compatible with it, and it only has one mouse button. Id take xp or vista over an apple anyday. And even though the commercials try to make microsoft look desperate, in actuality it shows me how desperate apple is to try and steal microsoft customers by putting those commercials out there.

For shame, apple sucks!

Wrong. With vmware/parallels installed on an Intel based Apple, it can run anything and everything windows can and more. I would have agreed with you a few years ago, but times have changed.

I have a love/hate relationship with Apple. I really respect the quality of their stuff but I don't like how over-priced their shit is and how elitist and hipster-ish they try to look.

I agree completely. Great OS, horrid prices on hardware... and the "loyal" Apple yoyos are a bit annoying as well.

I thought this too, but there are still some programs that will not install correctly even in parallels due to issues with the CD rom being recognized only as a mac CD rom.

Also, macs arent geared for heavy gaming

99% of people would never suggest a Mac for gaming... unless you are playing like pitfall or something old like that.

Either are most PCs.   (... and to be fair, the high end macs, from a hardware standpoint are better than most gaming PCs, but would cost an arm and most of a leg compared to a good gaming PC.)

I didn't know that about the parallels/CD issue.  I'm not certain why it would matter what the CD drive shows up as, but I trust that you know what you speak of.
