only rich businesses can afford to go to it right now. it requires serious hardware.

upgrading 500 laptops to is a lot more challenging than upgrading your home pc. there is a lot of work involved in changing infrastructures. our business will not be using vista for at least 2 years.

You need 2 gigs of ram to run Vista, if you don't have the 2 gigs it's going to run slow & jam up & i am hearing that there are new computers being sold that don't have the 2 gigs needed for the O/S, why they are doing that is beyond me.

I have 2 gigs and vista still ran slow as shit
I've been switching around from Ubuntu, Mandriva, and XP install discs.
Can't figure out the wireless internet configuration for the life of me.
And Wine Emulator is too glitchy to run windows apps smoothly.
May just have to settle for one of these XP torrents... if I can ever get it to recognize my broadband connection. :crankey:

But seriously, did I mention Vista fuckings blows.
Fook you microsoft for ripping off your customers, once again.

Apparently your other hardware must have sucked or something. No one I know (including the businesses I have worked at) have had any issues with vista with the exception of drivers (which is not microsofts fault its the hardware manufacturers).

From what I have been told, vista requires at least 2g of ram and a high end video card (with at least 128M of video ram) to run smoothly.

Yeah... think of vista like a game, you can have the minimum required specs but you wont like the performance.

Not the right way to do an OS in my opinion, but I am lucky enough to have a higher end machine.

2 gig's should be the minimum, although I'm running vista on 1g and a low end 256mb video card with pretty much no problems. I had it installed back in the beginning of the summer and had numerous driver and software compatibility problems, so I got rid of it. I installed it again a couple weeks ago, ran all the updates and upgraded the programs I was having problems with and it seems to running fine now. I did ask Santa for another 2g's of ram though.

If I ever have time to figure out how to install my nvidia drivers and Beryl in Ubuntu, I think I would be using vista alot less....

Im pretty sure it is. Vista is VERY demanding of hardware. I wouldnt even try to run it on anything less than 2gb RAM and at least a 256MB Video Card. Not to mention HDD space is a big issue as well.

Eh, I have 4 gigs, but not even all of it shows up with XP.

I'm running the quad-core Q6600, and they sent me an extra 320-gig sata hard drive when I ordered the stuff for my build. Whenever I get the time, I want to set up some form of linux, and Vista on the other hard drive.

Also did I mention my computer came pre-loaded with Vista?
The hardware is supposed to work fine with it.
I would have gotten XP from the start if they would have given me a choice!! :nonono:

Then it does run for you. Just slow. Always check the system requirements before buying a machine pre-loaded with a new OS.

Its not completely your fault though, the average Joe probably trusts Microsoft and/or the company he or she is buying their PC from. They should have told you it ran slow or something.

If a computer manufacturer includes components with properties implying a certain level of performance in a properly setup machine, the blame is not on the consumer- I feel.

It would seem the blame is either on the component manufacturer for making a driver that sucks and the manufacturer who included a component that doesn't work to a level implied by the stats and their advertising of the system.

The consumer doesn't have a responsibility to check compatiblity unless they have a choice as to what to install and choose an incompatible or sub-optimal performance.

If a peripheral's manufacturer advertises a certain stat, and this stat cannot be obtained with windows, or is irrelevant due to other limiting factors, than they need to include a disclaimer saying that, or they should be sued for decpetion, perhaps fraud.

So if I buy Crysis pre-loaded on a machine with the minimum specs and it runs extremely slow I am not at fault?

Its the same with Operating Systems.
