Oh, I just installed Vista on a separate partition - I knew it would suck, and I got this copy for free from my job.  Thank you though

What dont you like about Vista? Most of the issues have been fixed with hotfixes and new drivers. I think most people hate vista because its the cool thing to do so you sound like you know what you are talking about.

Turn of UAC and the annoying security boxes stop popping up, get new drivers, and get all the updates from Microsoft. Most problems are solved that way.

> What dont you like about Vista?

It is slow, it is bloated, it is difficult to use, it is ugly, it is buggy, it disables my digital outputs... did I mention that it is slow?

> I think most people hate vista because its the cool thing to do

Oh yeah... I enjoy disliking things 'cause it is the "in thing" ...

> urn of UAC and the annoying security boxes stop popping up, get new drivers, and get all the updates from Microsoft.

Or just install XP and don't worry about UAC, new drivers, new updates, and all that extra stuff that one shouldn't have to worry about when getting a new computer.

Oh, and you might be shocked to find out how much information you've agreed to allow Microsoft access to on your computer in that EULA you didn't read.

If its slow its your computer. If its buggy you need to update. New drivers are an issue no matter what OS you have. My 8800 drivers were worse on XP than on Vista when I got them. You dont NEED to deal with updates on any OS but every OS has issues not just vista. UAC is there for protection not to be annoying. If you dont want the extra security turn it off. Microsoft users complained about security issues so Microsoft added more and now people complain.

Its ok to bitch about vista because you cant run it on your machine, just make sure you state that your computer is the issue. Vista is not slow or difficult to use.

> If its slow its your computer.

Incorrect. There are numerous examples of people running benchmarks on a fresh vista install, then running the same benchmark on the exact same computer with a fresh XP install. On average, XP runs three times faster than Vista on the exact same hardware. Vista is bloated, poorly written (at least the parts that I have seen), and very slow.

> Microsoft users complained about security issues so Microsoft added more and now people complain.

That is because Microsoft didn't fix the problem, and instead gave us a choice: slow, unusable and "secure" or slow, usable and insecure. The windows design, based upon a single user system, is inherently insecure. Without a complete redesign of the paradigm, there is little Microsoft can do to fix the problem. Unfortunately, to fix the problem would destroy backwards compatibility with almost all existing Microsoft compatible software. They managed to dig themselves a very deep hole and have no easy way to get out of it.

> Vista is not slow or difficult to use

Vista is slow in every definition of the word I have ever seen. It isn't the hardware, it isn't the drivers, it isn't the configuration... it is Vista that is slow. It is also more difficult to use if you are used to older versions of Windows... once you get used to the changes, then usability is not much different.

I couldn't agree with you more Seuss. I made the mistake of upgrading to Vista Ult from XP Pro and had to change back. The thing that really sucked was I had to format my hard drive to get XP back on, as Vista does not have a feature to uninstall the upgrade.

It took me a good 8 hours of backup and another 8 hours to format, load XP, and transfer all my files again. What a pain in the ass!

I have vista on 2 Desktops and 1 lapop and XP on 1 Desktop and 2 laptops and vista runs just as well on the desktops as it does on the laptops. I really think the hardware you are using or the hardware in the tests you have seen is too low for vista. I see no difference in performance between XP and Vista. Im using Home Premiere or whatever it is called for vista and Home Edition for XP.

its sad really. oh well, im very comfortable with XP, and have no problems working on it for the next 5 years. I would switch to mac and run osx with xp if they didn't rape their customers with overpriced proprietary hardware.

fuck all that, xp is a bootleggers paradise.

XP > Vista, XP should never have changed, it was good still is, and microsoft should stop feeding the consumer's "need" for a new OS, because most consumers don't know what they need.

So they should change their Business plan to save you money? That seems like a poor business plan.
